Job summary

NYU Grossman School of Medicine is seeking a Financial Analyst to support financial analysis and reporting for the Perlmutter Cancer Center. The analyst will monitor revenues, expenses, and accounting structures across clinical trials, discretionary, grants, and operating accounts to provide timely financial information for decision making.

The role reports to the Finance Manager, Financial Planning, Analysis and Budget, and requires strong communication with Center Faculty.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor Degree in Business, Accounting, Finance, or related field; 1-3 years relevant work experience or equivalent.
  • Superior communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Possess strong customer service and problem solving skill sets.

Responsibilities

  • Generates financial reports; interprets reports and alerts Faculty and Financial Manager to potential issues.
  • Provides financial support to Faculty, Financial Manager and Assistant Director as required; prepares cost transfers and monthly Journal Vouchers (JVs) and tracks to ensure they are booked timely and accurately.
  • Develops and maintains tools and databases to accurately capture and interpret financial data.
  • Assists in development and implementation of internal controls and financial SOPs for the Cancer Center.
  • Prepare reporting packages and financial templates with detailed analysis based on requirements from leadership.
  • Reviews Accounts Payable documents, Personnel changes against the budget and actual spending and alerts the Faculty to potential issues.
  • Identifies and investigates financial errors and makes inquiries with Central Finance and General Accounting to determine cause of problem; proposes appropriate solutions to resolve the issue timely and accurately.
  • Ensure compliant use of all funding sources including philanthropy and recommend and implement changes to maintain balanced accounts and help resolve funding overages when necessary.
  • Provide ad-hoc financial analysis for special projects.
  • Develop and maintain productive working relationships with the necessary teams to address relevant issues and process improvement.
  • Contribute energetically to an environment of effective financial reporting and analysis, time management and prioritization, compliance with regulations, and adoption of leading practices.
  • Other duties as assigned
