Job summary

NYU Grossman School of Medicine is seeking a Financial Analyst to support financial analysis and reporting for the Perlmutter Cancer Center. The analyst will monitor revenues, expenses, and accounting structures across clinical trials, discretionary, grants, and operating accounts to provide timely financial information for decision making.

The role reports to the Finance Manager, Financial Planning, Analysis and Budget, and requires strong communication with Center Faculty.

Qualifications

• Bachelor Degree in Business, Accounting, Finance, or related field; 1-3 years relevant work experience or equivalent.
• Superior communication skills, both written and verbal.
• Possess strong customer service and problem solving skill sets.

Responsibilities

• Generates financial reports; interprets reports and alerts Faculty and Financial Manager to potential issues.
• Provides financial support to Faculty, Financial Manager and Assistant Director as required; prepares cost transfers and monthly Journal Vouchers (JVs) and tracks to ensure they are booked timely and accurately.
• Develops and maintains tools and databases to accurately capture and interpret financial data.
• Assists in development and implementation of internal controls and financial SOPs for the Cancer Center.
• Prepare reporting packages and financial templates with detailed analysis based on requirements from leadership.
• Reviews Accounts Payable documents, Personnel changes against the budget and actual spending and alerts the Faculty to potential issues.
• Identifies and investigates financial errors and makes inquiries with Central Finance and General Accounting to determine cause of problem; proposes appropriate solutions to resolve the issue timely and accurately.
• Ensure compliant use of all funding sources including philanthropy and recommend and implement changes to maintain balanced accounts and help resolve funding overages when necessary.
• Provide ad-hoc financial analysis for special projects.
• Develop and maintain productive working relationships with the necessary teams to address relevant issues and process improvement.
• Contribute energetically to an environment of effective financial reporting and analysis, time management and prioritization, compliance with regulations, and adoption of leading practices.
• Other duties as assigned

Position Summary:

We have an exciting opportunity to join our team as a Financial Analyst.

In this role, the successful candidate is responsible for assisting in financial analysis, reporting and monitoring post award financial performance and effectiveness of the Perlmutter Cancer Center. The Financial Analyst (FA) will be tasked with understanding PCC revenues, expenses, and accounting structure across clinical trials, discretionary, grants, and operating accounts to produce accurate and timely financial information to aid in decision making. The FA is responsible for managing and analyzing the financial operations of the Center by monitoring standard activities in accordance with the Centers internal controls and financial standard operating procedures, The FA offers analytical support by collecting and interpreting relevant financial data, maintaining tools and databases, and generating standard financial actions and reports used to produce accurate and timely financial information to aid in decision making . Success in this role relies as much on technical knowledge as it does on communication skills, as the FA is expected to maintain a very close working relationship with Center Faculty. This position reports directly to the Finance Manager, Financial Planning, Analysis and Budget.

Job Responsibilities:

Additional Position Specific Responsibilities:

Transactions:

• Submit transactions in PeopleSoft HCM related to salary allocation changes. Ensuring appropriate budget availability and accurate chartstrings.
• Reviews and approves PeopleSoft Financials transactions related to requisitions, PCard verifications and travel and expense reports, with an understanding of business expense policies and verifying budget availability.
• Submits requests for new chartstrings as needed.
• Submits eJVs or Cost Transfers to transfer expenses as needed.

Monthly Analysis and Reports:

• Prepares monthly P&L reports that are saved in the departmental shared drive and share with Faculty.
• Prepares monthly analysis of non-sponsored chartstrings directly managed by faculty/Principal Investigators.
• Audits, monitors and schedules reports of departmental financial activities, such as faculty expenditures and funding allocation changes.
• Prepared ad-hoc worksheets and other reports

Minimum Qualifications:

• To qualify you must have a Bachelor Degree in Business, Accounting, Finance, or related field, with 1-3 years relevant work experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Superior communication skills, both written and verbal.
• Possess strong customer service and problem solving skill sets.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Experience with Enterprise Systems. PeopleSoft or Oracle preferred.

NYU Langone Health provides a salary range to comply with the New York state Law on Salary Transparency in Job Advertisements. The salary range for the role is $66,300.00 - $75,000.00 Annually. Actual salaries depend on a variety of factors, including experience, specialty, education, and hospital need. The salary range or contractual rate listed does not include bonuses/incentive, differential pay or other forms of compensation or benefits.
