Job summary

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Business, Economics, Finance, Accounting, Mathematics, or related field required from an accredited university.
  • Minimum of three (3) years of experience working in a financial planning, accounting, or similar role required.
  • Related, relevant, and/or direct experience may be considered in lieu of minimum educational requirements indicated above.

Responsibilities

  • Performs financial and operational analysis to support leadership decision making aligned with short term and long-range strategic plans and operating budgets.
  • Performs financial modeling and business valuation (IRR, ROI, NPV, payback period, etc.).
  • Works with finance and business users to determine the metrics, reports, and analyses needed to manage and act on the business.
  • Conducts and coordinates financial, market, operational, and related research to support strategic and business planning within the department as directed by Tribal Finance management.
  • Works as a liaison with other departments to review and analyze financial impacts, prepare project implementation justifications, help prepare documentation for the financial approval process, and support the annual budgeting process.
  • Assists with the interpretation, evaluation, and interrelationship of research data, and generate integrated business analysis and projections for incorporation into decision-making.
  • Creates ad-hoc reports to help improve financial data analysis and reporting; month-end, quarterly and year to date.
  • Reviews contractual financial obligations and ensures accuracy and meets organizational objectives and budgets.
  • Performs other duties as assigned to support the efficient operation of the department.

Job description

Reporting to the Sr Manager, Finance, the Financial Analyst will be responsible for financial analysis related to Tribal operations. Assisting with the compilation of financial valuations for potential economic opportunities. Additionally, they will be responsible for periodically updating of reports, dashboard, and key performance indicators (KPI) for various other departments. Perform market research and competitive intelligence regarding Tribal enterprises will also be required from this role.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Business, Economics, Finance, Accounting, Mathematics, or related field required from an accredited university required.
  • Minimum of three (3) years of experience working in a financial planning, accounting, or similar role required.
  • Related, relevant, and/or direct experience may be considered in lieu of minimum educational requirements indicated above.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (KSA)
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, Access, and PowerPoint required.
  • Demonstrated experience working with relational databases and enterprise reporting tools required.
  • Familiarity with statistical and/or visualization tools (Tableau, Spotfire, SAS, R, Python, SPSS, etc.).
  • Employee must have experience demonstrating the utmost discretion and confidentiality as they will have access to confidential information.
  • Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and accurately interpret financial statements, and identify and track specific KPIs.
  • Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations, including the development of financial statistical models and forecasts.
  • Strong organizational skills, ability to execute on projects with autonomy and close attention to detail.
  • Experience with financial analysis, auditing and reporting.
  • Strong technical verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to create a positive and professional business relationship with internal and external clients.
LICENSES, CERTIFICATIONS AND REGISTRATIONS

At the discretion of the San Manuel Tribal Gaming Commission, you may be required to obtain and maintain a gaming license. No Driving Responsibilities: Role does not require a driver’s licence or insurance.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS/ WORKING CONDITIONS – ENVIRONMENT

The physical demands and working environment described here are representative of those that an employee encounters and must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Primary work environment is in a climate-controlled office setting. Work requires travel to attend meetings, trade shows, and conferences. Incumbents may be required to work evening, weekend and holiday shifts. Must be able to work in a fast-paced, high-demand environment. Strength sufficient to exert up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects and/or move up to 40 pounds occasionally. Sedentary work: involves sitting most of the time. Constantly operates a computer and other office productivity machinery, such as a calculator, copy machine, and computer printer. Physical activities that apply to the essential functions of the position are balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, pushing, pulling, lifting, grasping, talking, hearing, and repetitive motions. Hearing sufficient to hear conversational levels in person, via videoconference and over the telephone. Speech sufficient to make oneself heard and understood in person, in front of groups, in meetings, via videoconference and over the telephone. Visual acuity that meets the requirements of the position: The worker is required to have close visual acuity to perform an activity such as preparing and analyzing data and figures; transcribing; viewing a computer terminal; expansive reading and visual inspection of employees, visitors or facility. Mobility sufficient to safely move in an office environment, walk, stoop, bend and kneel, and enter, exit and operate a motor vehicle in the course of travel to promotional events, meetings, conferences, trade shows and San Manuel properties. Endurance sufficient to sit, walk and stand for extended periods, and maintain efficiency throughout the entire work shift and during extended work hours. The employee may be exposed to fumes or airborne particles including secondhand smoke. Reasonable accommodation will be made in compliance with all applicable law.
