We are seeking a Temp Royalty Analyst to support the Royalty Department during a period of active systems transition. This role will focus on preparing accurate and timely manual royalty statements for licensors, artists, and content owners while also supporting the transition to a new rights management system. The Royalty Analyst will assist with validating migrated deal terms, participant data, and royalty-related information, as well as helping identify the data and system outputs required for a developing royalty calculation engine. This is a hands-on, detail-oriented position for someone who can effectively balance manual statement preparation with systems, data validation, and process improvement initiatives.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare accurate and timely manual royalty statements for various business agreements, including direct royalty arrangements, joint ventures, and distribution agreements, using Microsoft Excel.
- Review and interpret royalty agreements, licensing contracts, and deal terms to ensure contractual provisions are accurately reflected in royalty calculations and statements.
- Validate migrated deal terms, participant information, and royalty-related fields within the new rights management system.
- Identify and document the system values, reports, and data fields required to support the royalty calculation engine.
- Analyze gaps between available system data and the information required for accurate royalty calculations, escalating issues as needed.
- Support testing and validation of royalty calculations by comparing system-generated results against manually prepared statements.
- Partner with Business Affairs to clarify contractual terms, provisions, and royalty requirements.
- Work with Accounting to confirm expense allocations, financial data, and appropriate data extraction for royalty reporting.
- Pull revenue reports and supporting data from financial and data workflow systems to populate royalty statements.
- Research and resolve discrepancies related to royalty statements, calculations, agreements, and supporting data.
- Respond to internal and external inquiries regarding royalty statements and provide supporting documentation as needed.
- Assist with process documentation and other projects related to royalty operations, systems implementation, and automation.
- Maintain a high level of accuracy and organization while managing multiple statements, agreements, and deadlines.
Required Qualifications
- Prior experience in royalty administration, royalty accounting, or royalty statement preparation, preferably within entertainment, media, music, publishing, or a related industry.
- Strong Microsoft Excel skills, including formulas, PivotTables, XLOOKUPs, SUMIFS, and data analysis.
- Experience reviewing and interpreting contracts, licensing agreements, and royalty provisions.
- Strong attention to detail with the ability to identify discrepancies and ensure data accuracy.
- Highly organized with the ability to manage multiple priorities, deadlines, and detailed financial information.
- Comfortable working independently in a fast-paced and evolving environment.
- Ability to quickly learn new software, systems, and processes.
- Comfortable transitioning between detailed manual statement preparation and higher-level systems and data validation work.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Direct experience with Rightsline or a comparable rights management platform.
- Experience working with NetSuite or another ERP/financial system.
- Exposure to Alteryx or similar data workflow, reporting, or analytics tools.
- Experience supporting a system implementation, data migration, or process automation project.
- Experience testing financial calculations or validating system-generated results against manual calculations.
This is a temporary opportunity expected to last approximately six months, with potential for permanent employment depending on business needs and the progress of ongoing systems and royalty calculation initiatives.
