OVERVIEW
The D. E. Shaw group seeks a senior manager to join the Financial Analysis & Reporting (FA&R) group, part of the firm's Financial Operations function. This person will serve as the project manager for a major new finance data platform while supporting the group's day-to-day business and leading its adoption of generative AI. The role offers the opportunity to drive a significant technology project, with regular exposure to senior stakeholders across the firm.
WHAT YOU'LL DO DAY-TO-DAY
- Serve as the project manager for the group's main technology initiative and its primary point of contact for the in-house engineering team, owning delivery in close partnership.
- Act as the group's business analyst, translating team pain points into clear problem statements and requirements, and supporting iterative design with engineering.
- Drive the group's adoption of generative AI, including hands‑on enablement, and develop practices that teams across the function can reuse.
- Apply generative AI to everyday work such as summarizing materials, tracking projects, and producing deliverables and visualizations.
- Own problems strategically, framing them, weighing approaches, and shaping longer‑term plans for the group.
- Work with FA&R leadership and partner teams to align priorities, and manage deadlines and risk across concurrent workstreams.
- Work across teams on process improvements, with scope to take on additional initiatives as the group grows.
WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR
- A bachelor’s degree or higher and a minimum of ten years of relevant professional experience.
- Keen business-analysis and product-ownership instincts, including translating team needs into well‑scoped, high‑impact requirements.
- Proven experience managing senior stakeholders, including distilling complex information for senior audiences and coordinating priorities across leadership and partner teams.
- Solid project management skills, with the ability to structure complex, high‑stakes initiatives and manage deadlines and risk.
- Initiative in adopting new technology, with hands‑on experience applying generative AI tools to real work and an interest in teaching those practices to others.
- Advanced Excel skills and sound quantitative judgment, including questioning number and system outputs rather than taking them at face value.
- Comfort operating both strategically and tactically, with sound judgment on what to own versus delegate.
- The expected annual base salary for this position is $200,000 to $300,000. Our compensation and benefits package includes variable compensation in the form of a year‑end bonus, guaranteed in the first year of hire, and benefits including medical and prescription drug coverage, 401(k) contribution matching, wellness reimbursement, family building benefits, and a charitable gift match program.
