Job summary

San Jose/Evergreen Community College District is seeking a Financial Aid Specialist II at Evergreen Valley College. The role supports the Financial Aid and Scholarship Programs with a 12-month, 40-hour schedule, Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.

The position is grant funded and represented by CSEA, Chapter 363. Under the direction of a Financial Aid Officer, you will perform highly specialized functions in financial aid processing, data management and reporting.

Qualifications

• Graduation from high school with college coursework in business, accounting, social services or related field.
• Three years of increasingly responsible experience involving financial record-keeping and public contact in a social services-related field, including at least two years of financial aid experience.

Responsibilities

• Review applications and documentation to determine need and eligibility for Federal, State and District programs.
• Handle computer systems tasks: testing program changes, data exchanges, and student file processing.
• Participate in packaging processes for programs like work-study, grants and scholarships.
• Prepare Federal and State reports to initiate funding levels and assist higher-level staff.
• Provide second verification of information and correct discrepancies as needed.
• Counsel students and families on cost of education, eligibility and regulations.
• Package financial aid data, enter revisions, and distribute award letters and documents.
• Maintain up-to-date knowledge of financial aid programs by attending meetings and trainings.
• Complete documents from outside agencies and communicate with district departments and external entities.
