Job summary

San José-Evergreen Community College District is seeking a Financial Aid Specialist II. The role supports Federal, State and District financial aid programs, under the Director of Financial Aid.

Schedule: 12 months, 40 hours weekly, Monday–Friday, 8:00 am–5:00 pm, with grant funding contingent on yearly support. The position requires strong counseling, analytical, and computer skills to manage aid packaging, reporting, and regulatory compliance, with opportunities to participate in pension plans

Qualifications

• Graduation from high school with college coursework in business, accounting, social services or related field.
• Three years of increasingly responsible experience in financial record-keeping, including at least two years in financial aid.

Responsibilities

• Review applications and documentation to determine financial need and program eligibility.
• Perform technical duties related to departmental computer systems and packaging parameters.
• Participate in file packaging for work-study, grants, scholarships and other programs.
• Prepare Federal and State reports to initiate funding levels for financial aid programs.
• Provide second verification of information and correct as needed.
• Counsel students and parents on education budgets, eligibility and regulations.
• Package financial aid data and generate award letters and documents.
• Maintain knowledge of state and federal aid programs and attend related meetings.
• Communicate with District departments, agencies, colleges and the public.
• Prepare records, files and reports related to financial aid activities.
