  • Budget Management: Assist in the development of the annual organizational budget. Monitor monthly budget-to-actual performance, analyze variances, and provide reports to department managers.
  • Grant Accounting & Tracking: Manage financial aspects of grants, including budget preparation for proposals, tracking restricted and unrestricted funds, and preparing financial reports for funders in compliance with grant agreements.
  • Payables: Responsible for posting all ACH transactions, processing invoices and payments to vendors, and reconciling and paying credit card bills.
  • Receivables: Responsible for entering all donations into the donor database, making weekly deposits, and issuing monthly and quarterly billings. Ensuring timely collection of receivables and accurate recording of revenue.
  • Audit & Compliance: Serve as a key point of contact for the annual external audit. Ensure compliance with GAAP, FASB, and other non-profit accounting standards and regulations, including IRS Form 990 preparation support.
  • Payroll & Benefits: Process payroll and manage related journal entries and reconciliations in collaboration with HR.
  • Process Improvement: Identify opportunities to improve financial policies, procedures, and internal controls to increase efficiency and accuracy.
Qualifications and Skills:
  • Education: A Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance is required.
  • Experience: At least 5 years of experience in an accounting management role with P&L responsibility.
  • Technical Skills: Proficiency in QuickBooks, Excel, and other financial management tools relevant for non-profits.
  • Non-Profit Expertise: Familiarity with accounting principles and practices specific to non-profit organizations.
  • Problem-Solving: Analytical mindset with a proactive approach to resolving financial discrepancies.
  • Attention to Detail: Meticulous in handling financial data to ensure accuracy and integrity in all reports and records.
  • Organizational Skills: Excellent ability to manage multiple tasks, prioritize responsibilities, and meet deadlines in a dynamic environment.
  • Collaboration: A strong team player with the ability to work effectively with colleagues across different departments, as well as with external partners and auditors.
  • Communication: Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain complex financial information clearly to non-financial stakeholders.
  • Mission Alignment: A genuine passion for our mission and a desire to contribute to a positive and collaborative work culture.
