Job summary

The Biological Sciences Division at the University of Chicago is seeking a Finance Manager to oversee operating and capital budgets across divisions. You will develop long- and short-term financial plans, prepare forecasts, and provide financial leadership to departmental leaders and faculty.

Responsibilities include budget monitoring, variance analysis, and collaboration to align resources with strategic initiatives.

Qualifications

Minimum qualifications include a college or university degree in related field.
MBA or advanced degree in accounting, finance, or a related field strongly preferred.
Minimum of 5 years of professional experience in accounting, financial planning, budgeting, analysis, forecasting, modeling, auditing, financial control systems, and regulatory compliance.
Experience in higher education, healthcare, or academic medical center strongly preferred.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office, especially Excel and PowerPoint.

Responsibilities

Develops systems and procedures to ensure integrity and internal financial controls of annual operating budget and annual gift/endowment use.
Reviews financial and research information; prepares daily, monthly, and ad-hoc reports including dashboards; analyzes statements and variances.
Manage financial reporting for divisions; monitor budget vs. actual and provide remediation recommendations.
Perform financial analysis and modeling to support strategic initiatives and PI recruitment.
Lead budgeting processes and collaborate with department leadership to align resources with strategic goals.
