Job Overview:
Vertiq is seeking a Finance & Operations Manager to lead and optimize our financial processes and oversee day-to-day business operations as we scale our advanced propulsion products. This role focuses on managing accounting, financial forecasting, and budgeting, as well as driving strategies to improve cash flow and financing. In addition to financial leadership, this role provides critical support for general business operations. The ideal candidate is a highly organized, strategic thinker with proven experience in scaling startups, who enjoys building the financial and operational infrastructure that drives company growth. This is a full-time, onsite role based in Philadelphia, PA.
Responsibilities and Duties:
- Manage end-to-end accounting operations, including accounts payable/receivable, payroll processing, and month-end/year-end close processes.
- Lead financial forecasting, annual budgeting, and long-range financial planning to support company scaling.
- Develop and execute strategies to optimize cash flow, manage working capital, and support ongoing financing and fundraising initiatives.
- Generate accurate, timely financial reports and dashboards, providing actionable insights to the executive team.
- Oversee general business operations, identifying bottlenecks and implementing scalable systems, tools, and processes across the company.
- Provide ongoing office management support to ensure a productive, safe, and well-equipped work environment for the onsite team.
- Manage relationships with external vendors, financial institutions, insurance providers, and external tax/audit professionals.
- Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal financial, labor, and corporate regulations.
- Assist in the management of HR administration, including employee onboarding/offboarding, benefits management, payroll compliance, and team culture initiatives.
- Work collaboratively across engineering, sales, and production teams to align financial and operational goals with product milestones.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration, or a related field.
- 5+ years of progressive experience in finance and operations roles within scaling companies.
- Previous experience working in a hardware startup or manufacturing environment is highly preferred.
- Strong foundation in accounting principles (GAAP), financial modeling, and budget management.
- Proven track record of successfully managing cash flow, working capital, and supporting company financing efforts.
- Practical experience handling HR fundamentals, employee benefits, and general office operations.
- Proficiency with modern accounting and ERP software (e.g., QuickBooks, NetSuite) and advanced skills in Excel/Google Sheets.
- Proficient in using AI tools (e.g., ChatGPT, Claude, Copilot) to automate routine workflows, streamline administrative tasks, and improve overall operational efficiency.
- Hands-on, execution-oriented approach with the ability to seamlessly pivot between high-level strategic planning and day-to-day administrative tasks.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to present complex financial data clearly to non-financial team members.
Salary And Benefits:
The expected salary range for this position is $100,000-$125,000, plus a bonus opportunity and stock options. We will consider your location, experience, and other job-related factors when determining your pay.
