Job summary

Gloucester County is seeking an Assistant Finance Director to join our team. Under minimal supervision, this role directs the County’s central accounting functions, including budgeting, financial reporting, and central accounting operations; coordinates with external auditors and leads the preparation of the ACFR.

This role reports to the Chief Financial Officer and requires a Bachelor's degree in accounting or related field, 6+ years of governmental accounting experience, CPA/CPFO licensure,

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in accounting, business administration or related field.
• Six or more years of progressively responsible management experience in general or governmental accounting.
• CPA or CPFO licensure.
• Experience with Tyler Munis.
• GFOA or VGFOA certification.

Responsibilities

• Direct centralized accounting functions; supervise staff and provide guidance.
• Oversee financial reporting, budgeting, cash management and financial controls.
• Coordinate with external auditors and prepare the ACFR.
• Review and approve disbursements and accounting procedures.
• Advise department heads on financial practices and compliance.
• Attend Board of Supervisors meetings with financial updates.
• Maintain compliance with applicable laws and ordinances.
• Develop and monitor county financial policies.
