Job summary

AbbVie in North Chicago, IL is seeking a Finance Lead, Global R&D Study Forecasting to oversee budgeting for clinical trial projects in Neuroscience, partnering with clinical teams and finance management.

You will manage forecasts, prepare reports, and support monthly LBEs and quarterly reviews, driving accuracy and timely insights across Plan, LBE, LRP, and portfolio submissions.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Finance or Accounting required.
• CPA or MBA a plus.
• Minimum 6+ years of progressive and related experience.
• Strong financial, analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Strong communication skills (verbal and written).
• Knowledge of SAP, Power BI and BPC a plus.

Responsibilities

• Supports all aspects of the clinical trial budget process including trial cost analysis, scenario planning, contract funding approval, and study budget management through the study life cycle.
• Gathers data from a variety of sources and provides quality clinical study budget information and metrics to Clinical and Finance Management to aid in planning decisions.
• Responsible for preparing predefined and ad hoc reports for the clinical teams and finance management, communicating on a timely basis for variance discrepancies and issue resolution.
• Leads the business in assessing and investigating study spend vs. forecast.
• Demonstrates awareness and use of data sources by proactively updating previously established forecasts at a regular cadence (monthly LBEs, Quarterly ROSS reviews, 50%/100% enrollment timepoints, ad hoc requests and annual cost validation), and updates manager as to the status of the study being forecasted (startup, Main ROSS, reconciliation and close-out).
• Interacts with various levels of management and functions within the organization.
• Supports finance management on ad-hoc requests and projects.

Purpose

The Finance Lead, Global R&D Study Forecasting position is responsible for supporting and performing financial analysis and budgetary reconciliations of clinical trial budgets for ongoing and planned studies in Neuroscience. The Finance Lead monitors study forecasts and is responsible for managing complex study expenses and forecasts for Plan, LBE, LRP and Portfolio submissions. This position collaboratively interfaces with the clinical teams and respective finance management and supports many ad-hoc requests and projects.
