Job summary

Humane Animal Rescue of Pittsburgh seeks a strategic Finance Director to lead financial strategy, budgeting, and governance. You will oversee accounting, audits, and compliance while guiding leadership with data-driven insights.

The role collaborates with IT and HR to align technology with financial sustainability and mission impact. The position requires nonprofit accounting expertise, strong leadership, and the ability to communicate complex finance concepts to diverse stakeholders.

Qualifications

• Progressive leadership experience across accounting, budgeting, forecasting, financial reporting, internal controls, and organizational decision support, including staff supervision.
• Strong knowledge of GAAP and nonprofit accounting, including net-asset classifications, donor restrictions, grants and contracts, and Form 990 support.
• Ability to build budgets and financial models, manage cash and risk, and translate complexity into clear recommendations for nonfinancial audiences.
• Experience working with executive leadership, Finance Committee, and/or Board of Directors.
• Experience managing IT consultants, tech vendors, systems implementations, or cross-functional integration projects, with ability to lead priorities.
• Strong systems fluency with accounting platforms, reporting tools, and cloud-based systems; ability to learn HARP's applications.

Responsibilities

• Develop and maintain HARP's financial strategy, forecasts, scenario plans, and cash-flow projections.
• Advise Executive Director on risks, tradeoffs, investments, and opportunities with data-backed recommendations.
• Strengthen long-term operating model through revenue/expense planning, reserves, and capital planning.
• Lead staff through annual financial review and collaboration with Technology for data integrity and cybersecurity.
