Job summary

R Street Institute in Washington, D.C. seeks a collaborative Policy Director to lead the Finance and Insurance program. You will report to the VP for Policy Partnerships and Government Affairs and drive policy analysis, outreach, and research in a mission‑driven think tank.

The role emphasizes leadership of staff, engagement with policymakers, donors, and media, plus development of a sustainable program strategy. Remote work options are available with periodic travel.

Qualifications

• Strong policy fluency in finance or insurance policy.
• People and project leadership experience, including managing projects with multiple stakeholders.
• Top-notch writing and editing skills in both short- and long-form products.
• Ability to synthesize research using methods common to the program’s work; econometric familiarity a plus.
• Demonstrated ability to work with state and federal policymakers and diverse groups.
• Support for R Street’s mission of promoting free markets and limited government.

Responsibilities

• Support program leadership and execution across R Street’s Finance and Insurance portfolio, including planning, timelines, and quality control.
• Manage and coach staff, helping them scope work, strengthen analysis, and deliver polished products.
• Drive financial growth and long-term sustainability by securing funding and donor relationships in collaboration with Business Development.
• Shape the research agenda on topics like insurance regulation, tort reform, and financial regulation.
• Contribute policy analysis, op-eds, testimony, and regulatory comments to communicate complex issues to varied audiences.
• Collaborate across the organization to enhance R Street’s voice and influence in policy change.
