Job summary

Sermetro is seeking a Director of Finance to lead the Finance Department and steer accounting, budgeting, audits, and tax functions. You will partner with senior leadership on strategy and financial planning, while ensuring compliance and accurate financial reporting across the organization.

The role requires strong leadership, seven years of accounting/managerial experience, and CPA is preferred. On-site in Detroit, occasional travel may be required.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance.
• CPA certification preferred.
• Seven years of hands-on accounting and managerial experience.
• Computer skills necessary to maintain accounting records and generate accounting reports.
• Analytical ability and mathematical aptitude for accounting tasks and discrepancy resolution.
• Interpersonal skills to communicate with staff and stakeholders.
• Ability to handle deadlines with concentration and attention to detail.
• Valid Michigan driver's license; ability to travel; flexible schedule.
• Evening/weekend hours may be required.
• Some out-of-state travel may be required.

Responsibilities

• Directs the Finance Department and ensures accurate and timely financial reporting.
• Oversees general ledger, reconciliations, and routine monthly/quarterly/annual reporting.
• Manages accounts receivable, revenue recognition, and grant funding where applicable.
• Ensures corporate tax compliance and timely filing of returns.
• Leads budgeting process including grant allocations and budget development.
• Oversees audits and fiscal monitoring, including single audits.
• Manages corporate risk and insurance procurement.
• Maintains financial records retention and training for staff.
• Contributes to special reports and strategic business initiatives.
