Job summary

SER Metro-Detroit in Detroit, MI seeks a Director of Finance to lead the Finance Department, overseeing general accounting, audits, tax returns, accounts receivable, budgeting, and grants & contracts accounting. The role partners with the Assistant Vice President of Finance and participates in strategy, financing, and treasury.

You will provide leadership in accounting, corporate reporting, risk and compliance, and ensure timely financial reporting, internal controls, and staff development.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance.
• CPA certification preferred.
• Seven years of hands-on accounting and managerial experience.
• Computer skills necessary to maintain accounting records and generate accounting reports.
• Analytical ability and mathematical aptitude to perform accounting/bookkeeping functions of moderate difficulty and conduct research necessary to resolve discrepancies.
• Interpersonal skills necessary to communicate with staff in the exchange of information.
• Mental ability to handle pressures related to meeting deadlines and completing tasks requiring concentration and attention to detail.
• Physical ability to occasionally sit in one position for extended periods when working on the computer.
• Adherence to the corporate code of conduct and professional etiquette required.
• Must possess a valid Michigan Driver License and automobile. Must be willing to travel and work a flexible schedule.
• Evening and/or weekend work hours may be occasionally required.
• Some out of state, overnight travel may be required.

Responsibilities

• Manages the activities of the Finance Department for the accurate and timely dissemination of financial information and reporting.
• Responsible for accounting, general ledger oversight, transaction fidelity, monthly/quarterly/annual reconciliations of the general ledger and bank statements.
• Ensures accurate and timely management of all accounts receivables including aging components, billing, cash receipts, and grant funding.
• Assures corporate income tax compliance and timely completion of all corporate income tax returns.
• Manages budgeting including annual budget process with grant allocations and grant budget development oversight.
• Manages audits and fiscal monitoring including financial and single audits and grant monitoring.
• Responsible for corporate risk management and insurance coverage.
• Responsible for financial record management and retention.
• Ensures routine staff and corporate financial trainings.
• Participates in special projects and compiles special reports.
• Ensures compliance with applicable regulations, policies, work procedures and instructions.
• Manages the accounting department and supports team goals.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
