Job summary

Community College Preparatory Academy (CCPrep) is seeking a Controller to manage the finance function at our Washington, DC campus. You will lead the general ledger, close processes, reporting, internal controls, and grant accounting, while supervising staff and ensuring GAAP-compliant finances for a nonprofit charter school.

You will partner with program leaders to tie spending to learner needs, maintain accurate financial statements, and support audits and compliance efforts.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or a closely related field required.
• Five+ years of progressively responsible accounting/finance experience.
• CPA or active progress toward CPA preferred.
• GAAP knowledge and nonprofit/charter school experience are a plus.
• Strong data, documentation, and cross-functional communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Lead general ledger, month-end and year-end close, reconciliations, AP/AR, payroll accounting.
• Prepare financial statements, budget-to-actuals, forecasts, and schedules per GAAP.
• Maintain internal controls, chart of accounts, and segregation of duties.
• Coordinate audits, tax filings, grant reporting, and documentation requests.
• Review restricted funds, contracts, purchasing, and revenue recognition.
• Supervise finance staff and improve financial workflows and reviews.
• Partner with program leaders to align spending with learner needs and priorities.
• Provide cost data for program reviews and explain financial constraints.
