Job summary

Buckeye Power Sales, an Ohio-based company, is seeking a Controller to lead the Finance team and own the month-end close cycle. The role drives financial reporting, internal controls, budgeting, and audit coordination across GL and inventory.

The ideal candidate will mentor staff, implement process improvements, and collaborate with executive leadership to ensure accurate, timely financial information.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
• CPA designation strongly preferred.
• Seven or more years of progressive accounting experience; supervisory experience strongly preferred.
• Thorough knowledge of GAAP, financial close processes, and internal controls.
• Experience with Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central or a comparable ERP system preferred.
• Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and proficiency in Microsoft Word and Outlook.
• Strong leadership, coaching, and team‑building skills.
• Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills, with exceptional attention to detail.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to present financial information to nonfinancial audiences.

Responsibilities

• Directing and supervising the Finance team, including hiring, training, coaching, and conducting performance reviews.
• Owning the month-end and year-end close processes, including managing the close calendar, reviewing journal entries, and approving account reconciliations.
• Preparing monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements and management reports.
• Maintaining the general ledger and chart of accounts in Business Central, and leading system improvements and process automation.
• Approving and overseeing company credit card reconciliation and expense‑management processes.
• Assisting the Executive team with annual budgeting and forecasting, and analyzing variances against the budget and prior‑year results.
• Designing, documenting, and enforcing internal controls and accounting policies.
• Coordinating external audits or reviews, bank reporting, tax preparation, and applicable sales, use, and property tax filings.
• Overseeing vendor and customer setup and compliance forms, including customer and vendor portal management.
• Overseeing accounts payable and inventory accounting, including physical counts and inventory valuation.
