Job summary

Grace Community Chapel in St. Peters, Missouri is seeking a part-time Finance Bookkeeper to manage day-to-day church accounting and timely financial reporting.

You will record, disperse, and report funds per procedures, and support the Treasurer with guidance on financial policies. This role requires strong integrity, attention to detail, and teamwork within a faith-based community.

Qualifications

  • GAAP knowledge or formal accounting training required.
  • Associate degree in accounting or related field preferred.
  • Experience with fund-based and non-profit accounting.
  • Proficient with accounting software (QuickBooks Online), Word and Excel.
  • Strong attention to detail and accurate report generation.
  • Commitment to confidentiality of church financial records.
  • Reliable attendance and teamwork in a church ministry environment.
  • Demonstrated Christian faith and compatibility with Grace Community Chapel.

Responsibilities

  • Record weekly contributions across funds and donor designations.
  • Prepare annual giving statements.
  • Maintain confidentiality of financial information.
  • Process expenses, issue checks, and coordinate with Treasurer.
  • Post weekly designated giving via ACH to proper funds.
  • Balance bank and investment accounts.
  • Prepare monthly reports for church boards and ministries.
  • Process semi-monthly payroll and related taxes.
  • Perform payroll tax forms monthly/quarterly/annual.
  • Prepare W-2s at year-end; coordinate audits and reviews.
  • Support other financial tasks as needed.

Job description

Finance Bookkeeper
Purpose

Grace Community Chapel is seeking a part time Finance Bookkeeper. The Finance Bookkeeper is responsible for day-to-day accounting operations of the church and supporting timely financial reporting. Bookkeeper will accurately record, disperse, and report Grace Community Chapel funds and financial matters per the specified procedures and provide feedback or concerns regarding any inconsistencies, issues, guidelines, policies or procedures that the Treasurer should consider or provide additional guidance on.

Job Skills and Requirements
  • A demonstrated ability to follow Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and/or a minimum of an associate’s degree in an accounting discipline from an accredited educational institution
  • Practical experience in fund-based accounting and account reconciliation
  • Practical experience in Non-Profit Accounting
  • Demonstrated proficiency in computer skills including Accounting type software, Word, and Excel. Specific knowledge in Quickbooks Online a definite plus.
  • Attention to detail and precision in account reconciliation and report generation
  • A commitment to good interpersonal relationships, teamwork, and support of church ministries
  • A commitment to confidentiality regarding all account records of the church, staff, and members

Job Responsibilities and Duties
  • Enter weekly contributions to the general fund, building fund, special funds, and donor designated funds
  • Prepare annual giving statements
  • Keep confidential all financial contribution information
  • Administer Bill.com and enter other expenses submitted for payment, cut checks, submit to the Treasurer for signature, and prepare for mailing
  • Transfer all weekly designated giving to the proper funds via ACH
  • Balance checking account and investment accounts
  • Prepare monthly reports for the church boards and individual ministry teams
  • Process payroll on a semi-monthly basis
  • Perform Workers Compensation Audit
  • Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual payroll tax forms
  • Make necessary deposits and prepare W-2s at year-end
  • Prepare for and cooperate with those appointed to perform reviews of financial records
  • Perform other necessary and related work as may be assigned (i.e., special reports for different ministry staff and church board members)
