The Team

The Global Health Finance team is seeking an upbeat and collaborative Finance Associate to provide business and financial support to the Global Health division. This role is part of the Global Health Finance Team and will directly support Program Strategy Teams (PST), partnering with experts in drug and vaccine science on making and managing investments.

Your Role

You directly support Program Strategy Teams (PST) in making and managing investments. You are responsible for the assessment of grantee/vendor financial position, the evaluation and negotiation of investment budgets, investment structuring, and the continued financial monitoring of multi-year investments. You also facilitate financial planning and forecasting to support the PST Director in resource prioritization decisions, as well as project work to strengthen the division in overseeing financial aspects of its investment pipeline and individual programs.

What You'll Do

  • Partner with Program Officers to provide financial and business perspectives in investment-making.
  • Perform financial diligence of grantees, vendors, and organizations, to evaluate their positions and risks.
  • Collaborate with grantees and vendors to develop and analyze investment budgets for projects.
  • Structure investments to optimize cash disbursements in consideration of scientific and operational risks, factoring in landmarks and other aspects of the product development cycle.
  • Work closely with PST leadership and Program Officers to translate PST strategy into mid and long-range forecasts and annual plans.
  • Perform analysis and provide PST leadership with strategic and financial information to support resource allocation and decision-making.
  • Manage forecast preparation, variance analysis, and review with PST Director.
  • Build and manage financial planning tools that support decision-making and communication with senior leadership.
  • Conduct data analyses to generate new insights on the investment portfolio, leading to improved allocation of resources and operational efficiency.
  • Participate in cross-foundation projects to improve tools and practices in support of effective investment-making, pipeline management, and operational excellence.
  • Support inclusive culture through modeling behaviors and actions; escalate issues in a timely fashion to appropriate stakeholders.

Your Experience

You are a creative, thoughtful, and curious professional who has an excellent track record of achievement. You should be prepared to work across a diverse set of disciplines, bridging a wide range of expertise, with a demonstrated ability to work with agility, and diplomacy in a dynamic environment. Additionally, we seek:

  • Bachelor's degree with 5 years of financial planning experience, or equivalent years of relevant experience.
  • Experience with finance processes, such as budgeting, forecasting, reporting, etc.
  • Experience with organizational due diligence and financial statement analysis.
  • Ability to interpret and understand financial statements.
  • Strong analytical skills, ability to absorb and synthesize data, build quantitative financial models, and distill key insights.
  • Experience in developing, maintaining, and handling dashboards and critical reports/data visualization tools.
  • Strong relationship building skills with proven ability to work with diplomacy, and flexibility, particularly as part of a team.
  • Ability to influence without formal authority and positively interact with staff at all levels within the organization.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and navigate multidisciplinary teams in a matrixed organization.
  • Ability to work independently and proactively to manage job responsibilities.
  • Technical and complex financial knowledge preferred, including international finance and capital and currency markets.
  • Experience with grant and grant structuring preferred.
  • Advanced Excel skills and data visualization experience preferred.

The salary range for this role is $105,400 to $158,000 USD. We recognize high-wage market differences in Seattle and Washington D.C., where our offices are located. The range for this role in these locations is $114,900 to $172,300 USD. As a mission-driven organization, we strive to balance competitive pay with our mission. New hires salaries are typically between the range minimum and the salary range midpoint. Actual placement in the range will depend on a candidate's job-related skills, experience, and expertise, as evaluated during the interview process.
