Job description

About OpenTrain

OpenTrain is the #1 platform for finding and building careers in AI training and data labeling. OpenTrain AI is hiring a Finance and Accounting Task Author to help shape how advanced AI systems understand financial reasoning and accounting workflows.

  • Remote contract position for candidates based in the United States
  • Part-time schedule of 20 or more hours per week
  • English-language work
  • Compensation of $60 to $120 per hour
About AI Training Work

AI training is the human side of building artificial intelligence. Experts create examples, assess model responses, and define what a correct answer looks like so AI systems can become more accurate, reliable, and useful.

In this role, your accounting knowledge will guide advanced AI agents through realistic financial scenarios. You will turn professional expertise into tasks with measurable outcomes and clear reasoning standards.

  • Work on cutting-edge AI training and evaluation
  • Apply specialized finance and accounting judgment to model development
  • Contribute remotely with a flexible contract schedule
The Role

OpenTrain AI is seeking a Finance and Accounting Task Author to design expert-level accounting reconciliation tasks that train and evaluate advanced AI agents. You will create numerically rigorous scenarios, write scoring rubrics, set up task environments, and validate correctness.

This role is listed at the entry level for AI training work, and no prior AI background is required. You should bring hands-on accounting or finance experience, strong numerical reasoning, and a precise understanding of reconciliation and revenue recognition.

  • Employment type: Contractor and part time
  • Time requirement: 20 or more hours per week
  • Work location: United States
  • Data format: Text-based task authoring and evaluation
What You'll Do

You will create realistic accounting challenges that require multi-step analysis and produce verifiable answers. Each task should reflect the complexity of real financial documents, system outputs, and accounting decisions.

You will also test your own work, refine task difficulty, and improve AI-drafted materials when provided. The goal is to make every task both challenging for an AI agent and straightforward to grade accurately.

  • Author prompts about matching payments to invoices
  • Design reconciliation tasks comparing billing with recognized revenue
  • Create scenarios involving margin report analysis
  • Write rubrics with exact numerical outcomes and required reasoning steps
  • Set up task environments using financial data, documents, and system states
  • Solve each task to confirm that the numbers and rubric are correct
  • Adjust data complexity, document ambiguity, and reasoning requirements to calibrate difficulty
  • Review and correct AI-drafted prompts or rubrics when they are provided
Requirements

You should be comfortable working through detailed financial information and translating accounting expertise into explicit, verifiable evaluation criteria. Accuracy is essential because tasks may depend on exact figures, reconciled balances, or documented explanations for variances.

  • Hands-on experience as an accountant, finance analyst, or in a closely related role
  • Strong, precise numerical reasoning
  • Knowledge of revenue recognition principles, matching rules, and standard accounting workflows
  • Ability to define exact correctness criteria and required reasoning steps
  • Comfort working with financial documents, spreadsheets, and accounting system outputs
  • Willingness to test and refine tasks until both difficulty and gradability are appropriate
Helpful Background

The following experience can help you create more authentic enterprise finance scenarios, but it is not listed as required.

  • Finance experience in manufacturing, industrial, or enterprise B2B environments
  • Familiarity with NetSuite, SAP, QuickBooks Enterprise, or similar ERP and accounting platforms
  • Background in audit, financial controls, or revenue assurance
How This Work Supports AI Development

Every major AI system depends on carefully prepared examples and human evaluation. By authoring reconciliation tasks and defining what constitutes a correct solution, you will help teach AI agents to reason through the kinds of financial problems professionals encounter in practice.

This is an opportunity to bring your accounting career into a fast-growing technology field while working remotely on flexible, specialized AI training projects.

  • Use professional accounting knowledge in a new AI-focused setting
  • Help evaluate whether AI can follow financial reasoning and produce accurate results
