Job summary

Responsibilities

  • Processes and audits various departmental accounts payable vouchers and invoices for purchases or contracted services; prepares vouchers authorizing payments.
  • Audits, reconciles, processes, reports and provides training on complex accounts payable procedures.
  • Examines accounting source documents for accuracy, completeness, and compliance with departmental and state rules, regulations, and agreements.
  • Investigates and reconciles complex accounting discrepancies.
  • Functions as liaison between employees and banking institutions, insurance companies or other entities on accounting issues.
  • Answers inquiries from vendors, contractors, or other out-of-agency personnel regarding departmental financial transactions.
  • Represents the district or division on ad hoc committees related to accounting activities.

Serving as an Accounts Payable processor, oversees, and Performs various Accounts Payable related activities including auditing, researching, and processing Invoices; preparing reports and responding to inquiries for the Accounts Payable Department within the Finance Division. Work requires contact with governmental agencies, vendors, and TxDOT end users. Employees at this level perform work independently on assignments; however, all unusual issues are referred to the supervisor.

  • Processes and audits various departmental accounts payable vouchers, invoices for purchases or contracted services; prepares vouchers authorizing payments and processes for distribution.
  • Audits, reconciles, processes, reports and provides training on complex accounts payable procedures
  • Examines accounting source documents for accuracy, completeness, and compliance with departmental and state rules, regulations, and agreements.
  • Investigates and reconciles complex accounting discrepancies.
  • Functions as liaison between employees and banking institutions, insurance companies or other entities on accounting issues.
  • Answers inquiries from vendors, contractors, or other out-of-agency personnel regarding departmental financial transactions.
  • Represents the district or division on ad hoc committees related to accounting activities.
  • Research and answers inquiries from vendors, contractors, or other out-of-agency personnel regarding departmental financial transactions.
  • Ensures compliance with federal and state laws, regulations, policies and procedures, and standards pertaining to programs.
  • Prepares and distributes accounts payable management reports.
  • Performs other job related responsibilities as assigned.

Experience: 2 years accounting, bookkeeping, payroll, auditing experience. (Experience can be satisfied by full time or prorated part time equivalent).

Preferred Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, Business Administration, etc. highly preferred.

  • Required technical skills using the following systems: Microsoft 365 (Teams, Planner, SharePoint), similar to Peoplesoft, OnBase, Quickbooks, Tableau etc.
  • Communicate effectively Follow verbal and written instructions
  • Follow applicable safety standards, practices and procedures
  • Protect sensitive and confidential information
  • Work successfully from a remote location

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:

  • Sedentary work: Lift up to 10 lbs at a time and occasionally carry files/small tools
  • Sitting - prolonged periods of time
  • Repetitive Motion-substantial movements of the wrists, hands, and/or fingers
