Job summary

SWCA's Indianapolis team seeks an Associate Project Wetland Scientist to join the Natural Resources group. The role is field-based with travel up to 60–70% during the active season, supporting Midwest projects and occasional office work for permitting and reporting.

A bachelor's in biology or related field and 3+ years of wetland and habitat surveys are required. The successful candidate will lead field crews, perform delineations, maintain data integrity, and contribute to environmental reports

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Biology, Botany, Environmental Science, Fisheries and Wildlife Science, Ecology, or related field.
  • 3+ years of relevant professional experience in environmental site investigations in the Midwest and surrounding regions.
  • 1 year of experience leading field crews in wetland and aquatic resource delineations.
  • 38-hour wetland delineation training course or equivalent experience.
  • Experience preparing natural resource reports and permit applications (CWA/CER/Section 10).
  • Familiarity with ArcGIS, GPS, and field data collection technologies.

Responsibilities

  • Lead field crews and collect field data during natural resources surveys (wetland delineations, habitat assessments, botanical surveys).
  • Apply environmental compliance expertise to support renewable energy and infrastructure projects.
  • Prepare technical reports, permit applications, and environmental compliance documentation.
  • Support projects as task lead or project manager based on experience.
  • Use maps, imagery, GPS, GIS tools to plan and execute field studies.
  • Independently conduct fieldwork or lead teams in surveys and monitoring.
  • Coordinate field logistics and oversee data management.
  • Process, review, and analyze environmental data.
  • Ensure team safety and develop safety plans as needed.
