Job summary

The National Park Service seeks a Maintenance Worker (Trails) in the Flagstaff Area National Monuments to perform, at the sub-journeyman level, trail construction and maintenance projects including water bars, rock steps, drainage structures and signs. Duty station may be distant from park headquarters with overnight stays in backcountry.

You will work under supervision to complete trail work, with knowledge of carpentry, masonry and use of hand tools, and you must be able to read instructions

Job description

You will serve as a Maintenance Worker Trails with the National Park Service at Flagstaff Area National Monuments. The purpose of the position is to perform, at the sub-journeyman level, the maintenance, repair, and construction of Park trails. Duty station may be in an area away from park headquarters with general duties performed in a park. This position requires frequent overnight backcountry stays.

Under applicable law, the employment of an individual serving a probationary or trial period automatically terminates when that period ends unless the agency affirmatively certifies, in writing, that the individual's employment should continue and that their appointment should be finalized. In the absence of agency action to affirmatively certify continued employment beyond the probationary or trial period, such appointments are terminated.

Upon completion of your Probationary Period your employment will be terminated unless you receive certification, in writing, that your continued employment advances the public interest.

QUALIFICATIONS:

To qualify for this position, you must have sufficient knowledge and ability in the following job-related factors:

1. ABILITY TO DO THE WORK OF A MAINTENANCE WORKER, WG-4749-7 WITHOUT MORE THAN NORMAL SUPERVISION (SCREEN OUT) - Perform the common work as a maintenance worker performing intermediate trail construction and maintenance projects such as water bars, rock steps, drainage structures and signs under normal supervision. This experience includes some knowledge of carpentry, masonry, and use of hand tools in a trail maintenance and construction capacity. Perform trails maintenance work under close supervision of a work leader or journey-level maintenance worker to make sure they are properly completed.
2. Knowledge of Equipment Assembly, Installation Repair, etc.

6. Ability To Interpret Instructions, Specification, etc. (includes blueprints reading)
