Job summary

Virginia Farm Bureau is hiring for a Field Underwriter role in Virginia. You will underwrite farm and commercial lines, analyze risks with agents, and manage surveys and inspections.

This field position requires travel across Central/Northern VA, Upper Piedmont & Shenandoah Valley, with company vehicles provided. Qualifications include a bachelor’s degree or equivalent and at least 3 years in underwriting or equivalent P&C experience.

Qualifications

• Minimum Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience.
• At least 3 years underwriting experience or equivalent P&C experience.
• Preferred: farming/agricultural knowledge and related designations.

Responsibilities

• Analyze and underwrite risk exposures on new and renewal business with agents.
• Schedule meetings with agents; complete surveys and inspection reports.
• Serve as resource for coverage and farm/commercial line questions.
• Coordinate with underwriters and Claims; communicate decisions to agents.
• Monitor books and report trends to supervisor and underwriters.
• Foster trusted agent-underwriter relationships with education and service.
• Support profitability, growth and retention goals; uphold core values.
