Job summary

Johnson, Mirmiran & Thompson (JMT) seeks a Transportation Construction Inspector in Virginia to apply inspection procedures for structural quality, safety, and conformance to plans and codes. Work is field-based with a strong emphasis on accuracy and safety.

The role requires a high school diploma and 1–4 years of roadway inspection experience; preferred qualifications include an engineering or construction management degree and relevant certifications. Salary is paid hourly with full benefits.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent (may be substituted for experience).
• 1-4 years of roadway construction inspection experience.
• Associate’s or bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or Construction Management (preferred).
• Client requested certifications (VDOT: Soils & Aggregate, Asphalt I & II, Pavement Marking, GRIT; DEQ: E&S and SWM Inspector; Intermediate Workzone; Nuclear Safety; ACI-Concrete Field Tech) (preferred).

Responsibilities

• Review and interpret plans, site layouts, specifications and construction methods to ensure compliance to legal requirements and safety regulations.
• Performs routine tests on concrete, soils and other materials.
• Measure dimensions and verify level, alignment, and elevation of structures, fixtures, grades and/or pavement to ensure compliance to plans and codes.
• Gathers and maintains record documents.
• Makes field notes and computations.
• Perform other related duties as assigned.
