An established industry player is seeking a dedicated Field Training Officer to lead and mentor new EMS personnel. GENERAL DEFINITION OF WORK:
Performs difficult technical and protective service work is responsible for training, mentoring, and evaluating new hires, and current EMS personnel. This role ensures that all team members meet the highest standards of patient care, operational efficiency, and compliance with local, state, and federal regulations. The FTO also serves as a leadership figure in the field, setting a professional example and promoting continuous education; does related work as required. Work is performed under the regular supervision of the Emergency Medical Services Captain.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS/TYPICAL TASKS:
Responding to emergency calls, providing emergency medical services and transportation; preparing and maintaining detailed records.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
Knowledge of EMS protocols and procedures for pre-hospital care at the EMT and/or paramedic level. Knowledge of Clinical best practices in patient assessment, treatment, and transport. Knowledge of Local, state, and federal regulations governing EMS operations. Knowledge of Training and adult learning principles, including methods for coaching and evaluating performance. Knowledge of Understanding of customer service standards in a public safety or healthcare environment. Ability to objectively evaluate trainee performance and provide fair, actionable feedback. Ability to adapt teaching styles to various learning preferences and competency levels. Ability to act as a liaison between field personnel, training staff, and command staff. Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information professionally. Ability to remain calm and focused during high-stress calls or critical incidents. Ability to model professionalism and uphold high standards of conduct at all times. Strong communication skills, both verbal and written, for giving clear instructions and constructive feedback. Leadership and mentorship abilities to guide, support, and inspire trainees. Critical thinking and decision-making, especially under high-pressure or rapidly evolving situations. Proficiency in documentation and report writing, including training evaluations and daily observation reports. Time management and organizational skills for managing multiple trainees and tasks effectively.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
Any combination of education and experience equivalent to graduation from high school supplemented by required emergency medical and paramedic training including NIMS courses and considerable experience in emergency medical services.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
This is very heavy work requiring exertion in excess of 100 pounds of force occasionally, in excess of 50 pounds of force frequently, and in excess of 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects; work requires climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, fingering, grasping, feeling, and repetitive motions; vocal communication is required for conveying detailed or important instructions to others accurately, loudly, or quickly; hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels; visual acuity is required for depth perception, color perception, night vision, peripheral vision, preparing and analyzing written or computer data, use of measuring devices, operation of machines, operation of motor vehicles or equipment, determining the accuracy and thoroughness of work, and observing general surroundings and activities; the worker is subject to inside and outside environmental conditions, noise, vibration, hazards, atmospheric conditions, and oils. The worker may be exposed to bloodborne pathogens and may be required to wear specialized personal protective equipment.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
Possession of an appropriate driver's license valid in the State of North Carolina. Possession and maintenance of current certificate as an Emergency Medical Technician - Paramedic issued by the North Carolina Board of Medical Examiners and all other minimum qualifications for the position as established by the department.
