Job summary

The North Carolina Department of Transportation is seeking an Engineering Assistant to support the Traffic Survey Group in planning, data collection, and reporting for the Traffic Monitoring System. Field assignments include installing counters, collecting counts, and preparing weekly data reports.

Extensive travel is required to multiple counties with some nightly work; applicants must operate a vehicle and handle equipment weighing up to 50 lbs. A HS diploma or GED is required.

Qualifications

• Must be able to perform manual and physical labor in varied environmental conditions.
• Experience using hand tools and basic field equipment.
• Able to use a laptop to manage files, submit reports, and communicate clearly.

Responsibilities

• Collect traffic counts using portable traffic counters.
• Install/maintain pneumatic tube sensors on roadways.
• Travel regularly to field sites in Sampson, Duplin, Pender, New Hanover, Brunswick, Columbus and Bladen counties; some night work.
• Prepare and submit field reports and maintain daily records.
