Job summary

The North Carolina Department of Transportation (NCDOT) is seeking an Electronics Technician I (S) to maintain and repair traffic data collection equipment across the state. The role involves field support, shop work, and installation of monitoring devices under supervision by the Electronic Systems Section Supervisor.

Qualifications include an Associate's degree in electronics with 1 year of related experience (or equivalent).

Qualifications

• Demonstrated ability in detection, diagnosis, and repair of electro-mechanical and electronic equipment using standard and specialized electronic testing equipment.
• Experience operating an aerial device for installation and maintenance of solar panels and sensing devices.
• Knowledge of the fundamentals of physics as applied to electronics including concepts such as capacitance, resistance, and signal processing.
• Skill in building and configuring electronic devices with various monitoring sensors, data recording equipment, and communication devices into a fully functional system.
• Demonstrated ability using Microsoft Office Suite including Word, Excel, and Outlook.

Responsibilities

• Troubleshooting, repairing, testing, and maintaining electronic traffic data collection equipment.
• Preparing and testing portable traffic counters and other equipment for deployment.
• Installing, inspecting, and maintaining electronic monitoring equipment at roadside locations.
• Using electronic test equipment, hand tools, and power tools to diagnose and repair equipment.
• Performing routine inspections and maintenance to keep traffic monitoring equipment operating reliably.
• Monitoring contractor activities and inspecting contractor work for compliance with contract specifications.
• Traveling throughout North Carolina to inspect equipment and contractor work and support field operations.
