Job description

Guide is seeking a Field Testing Specialist to support technical projects for Guide Energy Solutions and Guide Water Solutions. This field-focused role collects representative samples, performs required field testing, and documents operating conditions and other information needed for effective laboratory and technical evaluation.

This opportunity is well suited for a dependable, hands-on candidate who works hard, pays close attention to detail, and is comfortable working independently in active field environments. Extensive prior testing experience is not required. Guide will provide training on approved sampling and testing methods, and success will depend on following procedures, protecting sample integrity, recording complete information, and communicating clearly.

What You Will Do
  • Coordinate with the Technical Project Manager and other Field Testing Specialists to prioritize sampling and testing needs for projects supporting both company divisions.
  • Communicate with regional Guide Energy Solutions and Guide Water Solutions supervisors to confirm sample plans, field access, operating conditions, timing, and samples obtained.
  • Collect representative field samples in accordance with approved sampling plans, procedures, labeling requirements, and sample-tracking practices.
  • Perform required field testing using approved methods and properly maintained equipment after completing applicable training and competency requirements.
  • Complete required testing checks, calibrations, quality-control steps, and documentation accurately and completely.
  • Record sample source, location, date and time, operating conditions, treatment information, test results, observations, and other required project data.
  • Preserve, label, package, store, and transport samples to protect integrity and provide the laboratory with the information needed to begin testing.
  • Communicate results, field observations, deviations, sample limitations, and unusual conditions to the Technical Project Manager and Laboratory Manager.
  • Identify and promptly escalate questionable results, sampling issues, equipment problems, missing information, or conditions that may affect data quality.
  • Maintain sampling equipment, testing instruments, supplies, records, and the assigned company vehicle in a clean, organized, and operationally ready condition.
What You Bring
  • High school diploma or GED required; technical, trade, industrial, oilfield, water-treatment, chemical, or related education is preferred but not required.
  • Prior field operations, oilfield service, water treatment, plant, production, maintenance, construction, inspection, sampling, or industrial experience preferred; candidates with limited experience may be considered.
  • Ability and willingness to learn and consistently execute approved field-sampling and testing methods.
  • Demonstrated reliability, strong work ethic, attention to detail, personal accountability, and willingness to complete hands-on work in field conditions.
  • Ability to follow written procedures and verbal instructions, recognize deviations, and ask questions when requirements are unclear.
  • Ability to perform basic math, read measurements and instrument displays, enter data accurately, and maintain complete written or electronic records.
  • Ability to organize multiple samples, labels, containers, supplies, testing steps, and project details without losing traceability or accuracy.
  • Ability to communicate professionally with technical, laboratory, operations, and customer personnel and use mobile devices and computers for reporting after training.
  • Valid driver's license, ability to meet company driving requirements, and ability to work extended or adjusted hours, travel regionally, and stay overnight when required.
Physical Requirements & Work Environment
  • Regularly stand and walk for extended periods and frequently bend, stoop, kneel, crouch, reach, push, pull, and climb stairs or ladders.
  • Frequently lift and carry up to 50 pounds independently and move heavier items with assistance or approved equipment.
  • Work outdoors in varying temperatures and weather conditions and around moving vehicles and equipment, elevated noise, water, chemicals, dust, odors, and uneven, muddy, or slippery surfaces.
  • Climb ladders and access elevated work areas to safely collect samples from tanks or other approved sampling points when required.
  • Wear required PPE, which may include safety glasses, chemical-resistant gloves, protective footwear, flame-resistant clothing, hearing protection, hard hat, and respiratory protection when required.
  • Maintain the ability to safely drive between field locations and work extended or irregular hours in active operating environments.
