Job summary

Hitachi Rail is seeking an experienced field engineer to perform on-site installation and maintenance of CBTC and related equipment for wayside systems in our New York operations. You will lead field activities, troubleshoot complex issues, and coordinate across engineering and operations teams to ensure performance and compliance.

The role requires a bachelor’s degree in a related field with 5–8+ years of experience or a master’s with 4+ years, fluent English, and strong communication,

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in related field with 5–8+ years of relevant experience.
• Master’s degree in related field with 4+ years preferred.
• Excellent organizational and communications skills, both verbal and written.
• Fluency in English (oral and written).
• Field experience in rail transit installation, test or support appreciated.
• Experience in field activities support and customer processes.

Responsibilities

• Performs on-site installation and maintenance of Non- CBTC and CBTC equipment for wayside systems.
• Initiates work process procedures as per customer process.
• Identify problems detected during tests and correct as required.
• Supports troubleshooting and repair CBTC equipment as required.
• Provides support of test Carborne and Wayside activities and planning of field activities.
• Provides technical support in operational matters for wayside subsystems.
• Collaborates with multiple departments through integration, commissioning and support.
• Investigates/troubleshoots system anomalies via data analysis and documentation.

Job Description

Perform integration and test activities comprising of field support of on-going project activities. Perform Field Change modification to existing Designs as needed; Perform field troubleshooting, maintenance in CBTC equipment such as vehicle and wayside systems, and other external tasks related to test documentation and formalization of reports.

Key Accountabilities

• Performs on-site installation and maintenance of Non- CBTC and CBTC equipment for wayside systems
• Initiates work process procedures as per customer process
• Identify problems detected during tests and corrects them as required
• Supports Troubleshooting and repair CBTC equipment as required
• Provides support of test Carborne and Wayside activities and the planning of field activities
• Provides technical support in all operational matters in the functionality of wayside subsystems
• Works with diverse departments and becomes involved in all phases of integration, commissioning and support Promotes customer relations / company credibility
• Investigate/Troubleshoot system anomalies through analysis of data files, design documentation and interaction with development departments
• Provide summaries and detailing of test activities in the form of both informal and formal test reports

Key Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in related field with a minimum of 5-8+ years of relevant experience or Master’s degree in related field with 4+ years of relevant experience
• Demonstrates and applies a broad knowledge of field of specialization through successful completion of moderately complex assignments
• Excellent organizational and communications skills, both verbal and written, and good interpersonal skills
• Demonstrated fluency and understanding/comprehension in oral and written English
• Field experience in a rail transit installation, test or support environment or similar technology application is of significance
• Experience in support of field activities
• Strong process orientation and discipline to ensure compliance with both Corporate and Customer procedures
• Critical thinking, able to identify and implement better efficiencies and process improvements
• Effective communication skills to interact professionally with all levels inside and outside the organization.
• Flexibility to take on additional projects and adapt to changes in priorities

Preferred Qualifications

• Knowledge of automatic train control systems concepts and principles as well as current existing signaling standards
• Working knowledge of safety standards and practices required at project site
• Experience in installation and testing of train control systems
• Experience in customer interaction and adapting of their processes
• Working knowledge of Communication Based Train Control (CBTC) products with respect to installation support and testing a strong asset
• Experience in deploying fixed block signaling systems a strong asset
• Typically 1-2 years of successful experience in related field and successful demonstration of Key Responsibilities and Knowledge as presented above
