Job summary

CobbFendley is seeking a SUE Field Technician in Englewood, Colorado to perform field locating, utility identification, and excavation support. The role requires operating vacuum equipment, reading plans, and coordinating with project teams in varying weather conditions.

Responsibilities include safety documentation, QA/QC adherence, and potential leadership of small to mid‑size SUE projects. In‑person work is required with opportunities for development and career growth.

Qualifications

  • 4+ years of professional experience in the field.
  • Knowledge of field operations, methods, procedures, safety requirements, and environmental considerations for civil infrastructure work.
  • Skills: use of industry‑standard tools, equipment, and computer software to perform field tasks, document work, and communicate effectively.
  • Ability to safely operate required equipment, travel locally, regionally, and interstate, and work in varying weather and terrain conditions.

Responsibilities

  • Perform routine assignments with or without supervision.
  • Provide guidance to less experienced staff.
  • Coordinate with project managers and internal teams.
  • Operate vehicles and maintain safe operation.
  • Cross‑train to other field services (Telecommunications, Survey, SUE).
  • Perform hazard analysis and prepare safety documents.
  • Comply with safety procedures, SDS, EAP, PSP, JSA.
  • Follow QA/QC processes.
  • Identify and evaluate potential hazards and select proper PPE.
  • Understand traffic control plans and relevant regulations.
  • Perform mid‑level tasks in Air and Hydro Vacuum Excavation (SUE Locating).
  • Utilize locating methods to identify buried infrastructure.
  • Interpret technical plans and maps to determine utilities.
  • Operate or support vacuum truck operations during excavation.
  • Locate, designate, and mark underground utilities within quality limits.
  • Lead small to mid‑size SUE projects as Project Lead.
  • Troubleshoot utility geophysical equipment.

Requirements

Experience & Knowledge

  • Perform Level A (QL‑A) SUE locating using high‑pressure air/hydro wand, concrete saws, core drills, and vacuum hose systems
  • Perform Level B (QL‑B) locating with electromagnetic equipment and GPR scanning when required
  • Document site conditions via photographs, video, and sketches using GIS mapping software
  • Lead small to mid‑size SUE projects as Project Lead
  • Troubleshoot utility geophysical equipment
Physical & Cognitive Requirements
  • 80% outdoor, 20% indoor work environment
  • Seated and standing for extended periods
  • Mobile between floors/surfaces, carry and lift up to 100 lbs
  • Walk long distances (3+ miles) and climb uneven surfaces
  • Maintain alertness in lane closure zones and high‑traffic areas
  • Use PPE, pneumatic, hand, and power tools
  • Operate large pick‑up trucks, possibly watercraft, for extended periods
Work Hours & Location

Full‑time, 40 hours per week with possible overtime. Standard operating hours Monday‑Friday 7:30 AM–4:30 PM CST; lunch break may vary by project. Position requires in‑person work; remote work not available.
