Job summary

TEKsystems in Knoxville, TN seeks an install technician with travel to support IT hardware installation and network troubleshooting across various sites. Expect 75%+ travel, usually 8-10+ hour days, with company-provided lodging and meal allowances. The role requires hands-on installation skills, basic networking understanding, and independent work ability.

Contract-to-Hire position based out of Knoxville, TN, with a competitive hourly rate and benefits eligibility for eligible roles.

Qualifications

• General handyman tasks may be required, such as drilling through sheetrock or concrete to run cable or mount TVs/monitors.
• Candidates should have prior install technician experience and be comfortable traveling.
• Ability to communicate with home office IT and networks teams to enable remote troubleshooting.

Responsibilities

• Pulling and terminating cable, including drop downs and installing IT hardware.
• Connect and test hardware, drill through walls or access ceilings as needed.
• Coordinate with field teams; sometimes multiple techs per project.
• Occasional short-notice travel for onsite support when required.

Description

It is a 75%+ travel position that may be out of town at least 3 weeks of the month, typically Monday-Friday (travel days Monday and Friday, work Tuesday-Thursday). The geographic zone is the whole country depending on where help is needed. For locations within driving distance, techs will use either a company vehicle or their own (and be reimbursed for mileage). Hotel (Holiday Inn Express or Hilton) and meal allowance are provided as well.

The day-to-day will include a mix of pulling/terminating cable, drop downs, installing/connecting IT hardware, and drilling through walls or getting up in the ceiling.

Candidates must have previous experience in an install technician type role, preferably travel. While travel will be usually planned well in advance, there may be times where techs get less than one week notice if something happens at a site and needs support. Techs must be available and ready to go, within reason.

Extensive IT experience isn't required, but a basic knowledge of how to troubleshoot switches/routers or how to communicate with systems/networks teams in the home office by plugging in to allow the team to remote troubleshoot would be needed. Workdays will often be 8-10+ hours, and the work must be done while on the visit, if extra resources are needed or the tech isn't familiar with a certain problem they have to be able to figure out how to resolve the issue.

Candidates must be able to work independently. TA typically sends out a team of 2-3 for each project but that may not always be an option.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $26.00 - $30.00/hr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
