Mott MacDonald is seeking an early-career Surveyor to support water/wastewater, transportation, and other surveying projects in Charleston, WV. The role involves field data collection, instrument operation, and data management to support permitting, design, and construction activities.

The position emphasizes progression toward professional licensure, with opportunities to work across multiple regional offices and survey disciplines, including boundary, utility, and pipeline surveys.

Qualifications

• Minimum five years in land surveying or related field work.
• Ability to read basic construction plans, alignment sheets, plats, sketches, and field documentation.
• Strong note taking and daily documentation skills.
• Willingness to walk/climb rough terrain and work outdoors in varying conditions.
• Able to wear PPE and lift items up to 50 pounds.

Responsibilities

• Assist survey crews with boundary, topographic, ALTA/NSPS, construction layout, as-built, and utility surveys.
• Operate and maintain survey instruments (Total Station, GPS/GNSS, data collectors).
• Keep accurate field notes, sketches, and daily logs.
• Support field engineering, survey control activities, and data transfer workflows.
• Assist with acquiring right of way and entry agreements as needed.
