Apex Engineering Group is seeking a Surveyor I in Minot, ND to perform field surveys under a Crew Chief and assist design teams with CAD tools. The role involves topographic, boundary and construction surveys on civil projects with potential for independent field work and advancement to a Survey Crew Chief.

The job emphasizes accuracy, safety and teamwork, with opportunities to learn GPS methods and CAD software, and travel as needed.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or equivalent is required.
• A 2-year Associates Degree in Engineering Technology or Land Surveying is highly desirable (applicable experience may be acceptable in lieu of an Associate’s Degree).
• 1+ years of experience performing topographic and highway/roadway construction staking.
• Candidate should expect to achieve CST Level I and II Field Track.
• Capable or familiar with operating GPS, robotic and total station survey equipment.
• Familiar with survey data collection and construction survey methods.
• Experience with CAD programs such as AutoCAD/Civil-3D or Microstation/GeoPak is a plus.
• Perform simple surveying calculations using engineering calculator, laptop, and software.
• Knowledge of Microsoft Windows/Office products is required.
• Must be willing to interact with people and work in team environments.

Responsibilities

• Work with a Survey Crew Chief or Land Surveyor while performing land surveying services including plane and/or geodetic surveys for construction, topographic, right-of-way, and control survey projects.
• Gathers field survey data through use of conventional surveying and GPS methods.
• Prepares accurate field notes, drawings and records changes in conditions while in the field.
• May assist with construction observation duties on civil engineering projects.
• Learn and follow surveying methods and standards required by state and public agencies.
• Participates in pre-survey planning meetings with project managers and engineers and provide updates.
