Job summary

CESO, Inc. is seeking a Field Survey Technician I to assist the field crew Chiefs with land surveys, data collection and construction staking.

You will transport and set up surveying equipment, learn to read maps, and support boundary and topographic surveys while ensuring accuracy and proper documentation. Ideal candidates have a high school diploma or GED and may have 6+ months of survey experience, with a valid driver's license and basic computer skills.

Qualifications

• 6 months or more survey field experience preferred.
• Valid driver’s license required.
• OSHA 10 Hour Construction or Safe Land preferred, or to be obtained upon hire.
• First Aid & CPR certification preferred.
• Computer skills to enter timesheet data and use Microsoft Outlook.
• Local and regional travel as needed.

Responsibilities

• Trains on and operates survey equipment including total stations and GPS.
• Researches previous survey evidence and maps to obtain data for surveys.
• Assist with construction, boundary, and topographic surveys.
• Read maps, plans, and stake-out sheets supporting survey tasks.
• Ensure measurements are accurate with proper field techniques.
• Record data electronically and handwritten per CESO manual.
• Record routine work data (miles driven, daily reports).
• Perform other duties as assigned.

At CESO, a Field Survey Technician I will assist the field Crew Chiefs in performance of land surveys, data collection and construction staking.

Primary Responsibilities

• Transport and set up the instruments and equipment associated with surveying land, and preparing the job site for survey equipment such as rods, total stations, GPS equipment, tripods, and related supplies from truck to various points on project site. Trains on and operates survey equipment such as total stations, GPS equipment, data collectors, automatic levels, and scanners.
• Learns or performs research of previous survey evidence, maps, deeds, physical evidence, and other records to obtain data needed for surveys including courthouse and utility information.
• Assists with construction surveys for roads, bridges, buildings, subdivisions, and other properties.
• Assists with boundary and topographic surveys.
• Learn to read maps, plans, and stake-out sheets support of survey tasks.
• Ensure measurements are accurate by using proper field techniques.
• Learns to record data electronically and handwritten according to the CESO Land Surveying Manual.
• Records routine work data (e.g., miles driven; daily reports).
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Position Requirements

• High school diploma or General Education Degree (GED) is required.
• 6 months or more of survey related field experience/training is preferred.
• Must have a valid driver's license.
• OSHA 10 Hour Construction and/or Safe Land Certification preferred, or to be obtained upon hire.
• First Aid & CPR certification is preferred.
• Computer skills necessary to enter daily timesheet data and use Microsoft Outlook for email correspondence.
• Basic knowledge and understanding to coordinate Geometry Programs, download of data from data collector to appropriate project file folders.
• Local and regional travel as needed

An employee may be exposed to poisonous and/or thorny vegetation, snakes and stinging insects.
• Ability to communicate effectively in a work environment that has a noise level that varies between moderate to loud.
• Ability to travel as needed, which may include occasional overnight stays. Must be available to work overtime as required. Must be able to access various project locations, including sites with limited ADA accommodations.

Actual pay is determined by several factors, including location, experience, education, skills, and internal equity. Our pay structures are benchmarked against industry and market data to stay competitive. Each offer is based on a full review of a candidate’s background, qualifications, and fit for the role. Below are the typical new hire pay ranges for this position based on location: Columbus, OH: $24.56 - $28.03
