Job summary

CESO, Inc. is seeking a Crew Chief II to lead survey crews, perform land surveys, data collection, and construction staking with minimal supervision in Charlotte, NC. The role requires strong field skills, instrument setup, and mentoring of junior staff.

You will operate total stations, GPS, and data collectors, and integrate maps, deeds, and records data into surveys. Travel to project sites is expected; licensure and safety certifications are preferred.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Minimum 7 years field survey experience.
• Valid driver's license.
• OSHA 10 Hour Construction or Safe Land preferred, or to be obtained.
• First Aid & CPR certification preferred.
• NSPS CST Level 4 preferred.
• Professional Surveyors licensure preferred.
• Microsoft Outlook for daily timesheets and email required.
• Proficient with Windows or Android operating systems.
• MS Office, AutoCAD, Civil 3D knowledge preferred.
• TBC and Access knowledge preferred.
• Local travel as assigned.

At CESO, a Crew Chief II participates independently or with the assistance of a Field Survey Technician (I or II) to complete surveying services. Assists or directs survey crews in performance of land surveys, data collection and construction staking.

Primary Responsibilities

• Directs/assists daily duties of survey crew as required. Mentors junior staff members on survey field procedures, equipment, field notes, communications and CESO standard survey operating procedures according to the CESO survey manual.
• Transport and set up the instruments and equipment associated with surveying land and preparing the job site for survey equipment such as rods, total stations, GPS equipment, tripods, and related supplies from truck to various points on project site.
• Operates survey equipment such as total stations, GPS equipment, data collectors, automatic levels, and scanners.
• Performs research of previous survey evidence, maps, deeds, physical evidence, and other records to obtain data needed for surveys including courthouse and utility information.
• Complete construction surveys for area roads, bridges, buildings, subdivisions, and other properties.
• Completes boundary and topographic surveys that establish rights-of-way on area roads and properties.
• Read maps, plans, and stake-out sheets to reproduce a physical survey.
• Complete mathematical calculations required to reduce, check, or complete any survey data.
• Proficient in use of data collector to perform field to finish operations.
• Understanding of advanced coordinate geometry functions with ability to calculate boundary and construction staking within the data collector platform.
• Advanced understanding of boundary resolution, procedures and processes.
• Advanced knowledge in practice of construction layout for utilizing data collection software to produce construction layout calculations for utilities, roads bridges and buildings.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Position Requirements

• High school diploma or General Education Degree (GED) is required.
• Minimum of 7 years of field survey related experience/training is required.
• Must have a valid driver's license.
• OSHA 10 Hour Construction and/or Safe Land Certification preferred, or to be obtained upon hire.
• First Aid & CPR certification is preferred.
• NSPS CST Level 4 is preferred.
• Professional Surveyors (PS) licensure is preferred.
• Computer skills necessary to enter daily timesheet data and use Microsoft Outlook for email correspondence.
• Proficient in navigating Windows or Android operating systems is required.
• Intermediate knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite, AutoCAD, Civil 3D is preferred.
• Working knowledge of TBC and Access is preferred.
• Local travel as assigned.

An employee may be exposed to poisonous and/or thorny vegetation, snakes and stinging insects.
• Ability to communicate effectively in a work environment that has a noise level that varies between moderate to loud.
• Ability to travel as needed, which may include occasional overnight stays. Must be available to work overtime as required. Must be able to access various project locations, including sites with limited ADA accommodations.

Actual pay is determined by several factors, including location, experience, education, skills, and internal equity. Our pay structures are benchmarked against industry and market data to stay competitive. Each offer is based on a full review of a candidate's background, qualifications, and fit for the role.

Below are the typical new hire pay ranges for this position based on location:

• Charlotte, NC: $36.55 - $44.32
