Job summary

The City of Tucson is seeking a Survey Instrument Technician in the Department of Transportation & Mobility. You will obtain and analyze field data from electronic survey gear and GPS, under the Land Surveyor’s supervision. Strong instrument maintenance and data-recording skills are essential.

Responsibilities include operating survey equipment, interpreting measurements, and assisting with project planning. A valid driver’s license and 1 year of relevant experience are preferred.

Qualifications

• Six months post high school education is required or substituted by equivalent experience.
• One year of relevant field surveying experience is preferred.
• Valid driver's license with clean record is required.
• Ability to operate and maintain surveying instruments and tools.

Responsibilities

• Operate transits, levels, theodolites or electronic measuring devices to locate lines and points.
• Calibrate, service, and maintain survey equipment to keep it in good working order.
• Record field notes and prepare data for maps, plans, and as-built drawings.
• Assist with training new crew members and coordinate tasks with surveyors and engineers.
