Job summary

HDR is seeking an Assistant Resident Engineer / Assistant Structures Representative in Irvine, CA to oversee roadway, utilities and structural construction on transportation projects. You will coordinate with contractors, agencies and clients, maintain project records, and support QA and safety on site.

The role requires a civil/structural background, PE license, and strong communication skills. Travel and heavy construction at heights may be involved, with a full-time schedule.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Construction Management or closely related field.
• Professional engineering license recognized by the licensing board for the location offered.
• Experience using Microsoft Office, Estimating & CPM Scheduling Software, and web-based document collaboration.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Perform daily field inspections to verify construction activities follow approved plans and specifications.
• Coordinate with HDR, clients, contractors, and agencies to resolve field issues.
• Prepare checklists, daily reports, quantity calculations, and as-built documentation.
• Assist in reviewing submittals, RFIs, Field Directives, and change orders.
• Support safety, schedule coordination, and quality assurance on site.
