Job summary

HDR is seeking an Assistant Resident Engineer / Assistant Structures Representative to oversee roadway, utilities and structural construction on transportation projects. You will assist in contract administration, construction engineering, and coordination with contractors and agencies to ensure compliance with plans, specs, and safety standards.

The role requires collaboration with Caltrans, OCTA, and local jurisdictions, as well as documentation, punch lists, and final reports.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Engineering or related field required.
• Professional Engineer license recognized by the licensing board is required.
• Experience with field inspections on highway/bridge projects preferred.
• Strong knowledge of Caltrans standards and contract documents desired.
• Proficiency with CPM scheduling and claim analysis tools is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Coordinate daily field inspections to verify construction activities meet plans and specs.
• Support contract administration, submittals, RFIs, and change orders.
• Assist in coordination with agencies (Caltrans, OCTA, local jurisdictions) and utilities.
• Maintain project records, reports, and as-built documentation.
• Support safety, traffic control, and environmental compliance on site.
• Assist in punch lists, closeout documentation and final reports.
