Job summary

Silent-Aire, a division of Johnson Controls, is seeking an engineering technician to support large-scale mechanical systems in data center facilities. You will work between field interfacing with customers and manufacturing teams to optimize our cooling products.

Strong problem-solving, communication, and teamwork are essential for success. You will read blueprints and specs, install refrigeration components, perform tests, and help maintain and troubleshoot PLC-based controls.

Qualifications

• Must possess a valid driver’s license.
• Must have a high school diploma or equivalent GED certificate.
• Knowledge of operating principles of cooling/refrigeration equipment and systems.
• Knowledge of electricity and solid state control systems.
• Knowledge of safety practices and building codes.
• Customer service skills.
• Experience with start up and commissioning at customer facilities.
• Ability to read, understand and work from blueprints, specifications, and schematics.
• Ability to maintain records and prepare reports.
• Must be able to lift 40lbs and work from heights.

Responsibilities

• Read and interpret electrical, control and mechanical blueprints, drawings, and other specifications.
• Measure and lay out reference points for installation.
• Assemble and install refrigeration or air conditioning components using hand and power tools.
• Measure and cut piping and connect piping using welding and brazing equipment.
• Start up system and test for leaks using testing devices.
• Recharge system with refrigerant, check and test regulators, calibrate system and perform routine maintenance.
• Troubleshoot, diagnose, and repair a wide variety of heating and cooling/refrigeration equipment/systems.
• Troubleshoot, diagnose, and repair PLC-based Custom Controls designed and built by Silent-Aire.
• Focus is on independently achieving general objectives in support of an assigned project.
• Work independently on varied assignments requiring broad/specialized knowledge of refrigeration/HVAC.
• Communicate technical issues to technical and non-technical staff and stakeholders.
