Job summary

Xylem is hiring a Service Shop Technician in Bozrah, Connecticut to troubleshoot, maintain, service, and repair pumping equipment in our service center or at customer sites. The role includes on-site and after-hours support, with paid training and a comprehensive benefits package.

The ideal candidate has 1-2 years of diesel experience, a valid driver's license, and the ability to obtain a DOT Medical card. The job requires safety-conscious mechanical and electrical diagnostic skills and

Qualifications

• 1-2 years of diesel experience and/or training or combination of education, training and experience that demonstrates the ability to perform the duties of the position.
• Valid driver’s license with good driving record
• Ability to obtain DOT Medical card
• Diagnosing basic mechanical problems
• Thorough understanding of the methods, materials, tools and techniques used in equipment repair and maintenance.
• Basic understanding of pump station electrical controls and monitoring devices
• General DC electric and circuit testing skills
• General diesel engine component location and identification
• Safety practices and procedures
• Basic mechanical aptitude
• Ability to diagnose complex mechanical and electrical issues--preferred.
• Ability to work independently with little or no supervision; self-motivated and self-directed.
• Ability to communicate effectively with customers, co-workers and managers both verbally and in writing.

Responsibilities

• Perform routine inspections, preventative maintenance and servicing on Godwin fleet equipment between each rental.
• Troubleshoot diesel engine, electrical systems and pump problems.
• Rebuild diesel engines and pump ends.
• Assist customer and/or Xylem personnel with setting up pumping systems on customer job sites as needed.
• Assist in the performance of start-up duties and ensure any problems are resolved.
• Perform an initial inspection of Godwin fleet equipment for possible damages; diagnose damages; report damages to Service Manager.
• Test all repaired equipment for proper operation and quality.
• Perform preventative maintenance on Company vehicles and shop support equipment.
• Perform diagnostic checks using computer technology.
• Participate in monthly on-call rotation schedule to assist customers after hours.
• Perform related duties as assigned.
• Participation in Xylem Watermark volunteer activities
