Job summary

Thompson Power Systems in Birmingham, AL is seeking an Electric Power Generation (EPG) Technician to service and repair generators and power systems. The role involves field and shop work, extensive training, and progression based on performance and safety standards.

Responsibilities include preventive maintenance, component repair, parts handling, and safe operation of tools and service information systems. High school diploma and 1–3 years of mechanical repair experience are required.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or the equivalent required.
  • 1–3 years of mechanical repair experience or equivalent technical education.
  • Experience using personal computers and basic typing skills required.
  • Advanced engine diagnostic and repair skills
  • Advanced electrical diagnostic and repair skills
  • Basic computer skills

Responsibilities

  • Plans and performs minor repairs using correct tools and procedures.
  • Orders and return parts for assigned jobs in timely manner.
  • Ability to perform the following tasks on basic components in work area including engine, hydraulic, transmission, and electrical components: remove and install; disassemble and reassemble; perform minor adjustments.
  • Ability to perform Preventive Maintenance service according to factory guidelines.
  • Demonstrates proper use of service information systems.
  • Works as helper in field service with experienced Technician as required.
  • Adheres to and follows all applicable and required safety standards and procedures.
  • Works independently in the field as required.
