Job description

Overview

Rapiscan Systems designs, manufactures, and markets security and inspection systems worldwide. Our products are used to inspect baggage, cargo, people, vehicles, and other objects for weapons, explosives, drugs, and contraband. These devices are found in airports, border crossings, railway stations, seaports, government and military installations, and nuclear facilities.

We are seeking a Field Service Technician based in the Chicago, IL area to join our fast-paced, quality-focused team. The primary responsibility of this role is to ensure customer satisfaction by providing installation, troubleshooting, diagnostic, repair, and maintenance support for Rapiscan equipment. The ideal candidate will demonstrate strong electronic repair skills and troubleshooting knowledge.

Responsibilities
  • Install, repair, and maintain equipment in the field.
  • Meet contractual requirements for metrics, reporting, and customer management.
  • Respond to emergency and non-scheduled service calls within established response times.
  • Ensure daily service repair needs are met and drive customer satisfaction at assigned sites.
  • Complete scheduled maintenance within deadlines and document all work promptly.
  • Order, install, and return parts according to regulations.
  • Maintain a safe, clean work environment and adhere to safety procedures.
  • Report safety incidents and assist in investigations and corrective actions.
  • Uphold company values of Integrity, Innovation, Accountability, and Teamwork.
  • Report quality problems or defects for corrective action.
  • Perform other duties as needed to meet business requirements.
Qualifications
  • Associate of Science degree in electronics or related field, or equivalent military training; Bachelor’s degree preferred.
  • At least 4 years of field service experience, preferably in the x-ray industry.
  • Knowledge of electronic/mechanical assemblies, wiring diagrams, and schematics.
  • Experience with test equipment (DVM, oscilloscope) and high-voltage/x-ray equipment is preferred.
  • Excellent communication skills, detail-oriented, organized, and self-motivated.
  • Proficient in MS Office and willing to learn specialized software.
  • Team player capable of working under pressure with minimal supervision.
  • Flexible schedule, including non-standard hours, weekends, and holidays.
  • Ability to travel up to 75%, including short notice and overnight stays.
  • Clear background check, US citizenship, valid driver’s license, and reliable transportation.
Physical Requirements

Must be able to walk, stand, stoop, squat, kneel, reach, bend, sit, climb, and lift up to 25 lbs, with specific percentages of time dedicated to each activity.
