Job summary

Qualus Corporation in the United States is seeking a Field Service Technician III in our Specialized Field Services group. The role involves testing, maintenance and repair of low and medium voltage equipment in shop and field, with 30-50% travel.

You will lead field testing, supervise repairs, document site work, and mentor junior technicians. A strong HV background and ability to read schematics, use PowerDB and travel up to 50% are essential.

Qualifications

• 3–5 years of Switchgear/High Voltage technician experience.
• Proficient with high voltage test equipment.
• Ability to read manuals and reports; communicate clearly in English.

Responsibilities

• Provide testing and servicing of relays, circuit breakers, transformers, and switchgear in field.
• Perform mechanical work and repairs on breakers and switches.
• Lead testing/maintenance/repair activities for breakers, transformers, switchgear, and motor control equipment.
• Prepare and document site projects thoroughly.
• Wiring circuit breakers and reading test equipment.
• Read schematics and wiring drawings.
• Troubleshoot circuit breaker controls and time-current curves.
• Test transformers including Power Factor and TTR.
• Document activity using PowerDB.
• Provide instruction and mentorship to junior technicians.
• Work with electrical tools and socket sets.

Position Overview

Power your future with Qualus in our Specialized Field Services department as a Field Service Technicians III. As a Field Service Technician III you responsibilities include performing testing, maintenance and repair of low and medium voltage circuit breakers, transformers, switchgear, motor control and other electrical apparatus in the shop and in the field.

Travel: 30-50% overnight travel

Responsibilities

• Provide technical capabilities for testing relays, circuit breakers, transformers, motor control equipment, and related switchgear in the field.
• Completing mechanical work and repairs on breakers and switches, including tear down, refurbishment and parts replacement.
• Serve as a technical leader in testing/maintenance/repair of breakers, transformers, switchgear, motor control and associated equipment
• Provides proper preparation and documentation for site projects
• Wiring circuit breakers.
• Utilizing and accurately reading test equipment.
• Reading schematics and wiring drawings.
• Troubleshooting circuit breaker controls.
• Reading and plotting time-current curves.
• Testing transformers, including Power Factor and TTR.
• Accurately and consistently documenting using Power DB.
• Provide instruction and mentorship in training for junior level technicians
• Able to work with electrical tools and socket sets.

Minimum Qualifications

• Education:High School Diploma
• Minimum of 3-5 years’ experience as a Switchgear/High Voltage Technician. Proficiency with high voltage test equipment as well as knowledge of low and medium voltage test equipment.
• Ability to carry out instructions furnished in written or oral form; deal with problems involving several concrete variables.
• Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference and fundamentals of plain and solid geometry and trigonometry. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios and proportions of practical situations.
• Ability to read company manuals and reports, workplace rules and procedures; speak with poise and confidence, using correct English.
• Perform regular field work both indoors and outdoors
• Valid Driver’s license and good driving record
• Certifications & Licenses: NETA 2 preferred
• Ability to communicate effectively in English (inclusive of reading and writing) due to the nature of safety-related materials, documentation, and interactions with clients.
• Prefer an Associate’s degree from an accredited 2-year technical college in Electrical Power & Controls (EPC), or an Electrical Engineering Degree from an ABET accredited college, similar experience and training from the military (Army Prime Power, Air Force Electrical Power Production, or NAVY Seabee)
