Field Service Diesel Technician – Sioux City, IA
Ziegler CAT is seeking a Field Service Diesel Technician to diagnose and repair heavy construction equipment such as Caterpillar compactors, excavators, loaders, dozers, and other machinery. A company truck will be provided.
Pay
Pay range: $38.00 – $51.00 per hour (starting wage depends on skills, experience, education, and location).

Responsibilities
- Diagnose and repair Caterpillar equipment including compactors, excavators, loaders, dozers, and other heavy construction equipment.
- Work independently to repair complex systems involving mechanical, hydraulic, diesel, and electrical components.
- Follow safety policies and procedures at all times.
- Respond to customer needs promptly to maximize value of work performed.
- Answer after‑hour emergency calls as directed by supervisor.
- Collaborate with other technicians for troubleshooting and repairs.
- Document work orders accurately and timely, and communicate parts needs for inventory.
Qualifications
- 2‑year technical college degree in diesel technology or related field; or high school diploma/GED with 2 years of comparable shop mechanic experience.
- 3+ years of diesel equipment repair experience, preferably in the field.
- Knowledge of hydraulics, transmissions, undercarriage, track systems, engines, emissions, electrical, and fuel systems; experience with CAT equipment is preferred.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills with supervisors, customers, and team members.
- Basic computer skills for documenting work orders and using online diagnostic systems.
- Own mechanic tool set and ability to maintain a clean service truck.
- Clean driving record and willingness to respond to after‑hour emergency calls.
- Pass DOT pre‑employment drug screen and physical; DOT medical card required.
Minimum Physical Requirements
- Push/pull up to 50 lbs; lift/carry up to 60 lbs.
- Perform tasks such as standing, walking, using hands, talking, hearing, neck and trunk rotation.
- Climb stairs and ladders; lift bulky objects; bend, kneel, settle squat, and reach overhead.
- Work indoor and/or outdoor; noise level may be loud at times.
