Field Service Technician – Dallas/Fort Worth, TX

Holt CAT, the largest Caterpillar dealer of heavy construction equipment in the United States, is seeking an experienced Field Service Technician for the Dallas/Fort Worth Texas Region. The Field Service Technician's primary role is to conduct exceptional field service repairs, which include addressing problems such as emissions, hydraulics, engines, transmissions, HVAC, and electrical issues on heavy construction equipment like dozers, backhoes, front-end loaders, and excavators. Hours for this position will be Monday thru Friday 7am to 5pm, and overtime may be required. A valid driver license and a good driving record are required. Related construction equipment experience is preferred for this role. The technician must be able to obtain a CDL Class B and maintain a DOT medical Card.

Key Responsibilities

• Ability to troubleshoot, diagnose, and repair construction equipment using electronic and manual equipment to determine failure.
• Able to document all work orders properly.
• Must be able to troubleshoot and diagnose Tier 4 emission systems.
• Must be able to troubleshoot and diagnose EGR systems.
• Works safely at all times and adheres to all applicable safety policies; complies with all company policies, procedures, and standards.
• Performs intermediate repairs and troubleshooting offsite with minimal supervision.
• Performs intermediate troubleshooting, diagnoses of equipment malfunctions, and failure analysis.
• Removes and installs parts, disassembles and assembles components to CAT specifications.
• Tests, makes adjustments, and verifies proper operation of all repairs and adjustments.
• Prepares and completes all job related documents, writes service reports, orders parts, and maintains clear customer records; also accesses databases required to complete job.
• Acts as a team leader and mentors/coaches.
• Participates in the quotation of work orders.
• Operates equipment and vehicles with possession of all necessary licenses and certificates.
• Maintains service vehicle inspection records, daily inspections, and driver logs as required by the Department of Transportation.
• Adheres to contamination control and HAZMAT rules and regulations.
• Maintains all company equipment, tools, and vehicle in a good, clean, and working order.
• Communicates job progress to supervisor and customer as needed.
• Completes assigned jobs and tasks to meet flat rate time and re-work standards.
• Works overtime as required by workload and customers’ needs.
• Completes all assigned Technician Training Path courses and safety training in a timely and proficient manner.
• Projects professionalism with both internal and external customers, including personal appearance; may be relied upon to act as a mentor to lower level Technicians.
• Requires regular and punctual employee attendance.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

Experience and Certifications

• Must be able to properly and efficiently troubleshoot and diagnose emission systems.

Travel

Travel required with a possibility of an overnight stay.

Additional Requirements

• Valid driver’s license required.
• Ability to obtain a valid Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) and must have an acceptable driving record.
• Must own required tools to perform repairs.

Physical Requirements

• Must be able to move objects and use abdominal and lower back muscles to provide support over time without fatigue.
• Frequently moves materials or equipment weighing up to 80 lb.
• Constant movement and use of limbs; this position requires good manual dexterity, coordination, and stamina.
• Ascends/descends with gradual or continuous progress by oneself, using both hands and feet and climbs up and down ladders and/or equipment.
• Be able to maneuver safely and work underneath equipment.
• Routinely reacts to visual, auditory, and other signals, including alarms and instructions, and is required to visually inspect work.

Work Environment

• Requires wearing common protective or safety equipment.
• Regularly works outdoors around moving mechanical parts and noise level may be loud at times.
• May be exposed to weather extremes when working outside in conditions that include inclement weather, heat, cold, and humidity.
• Exposure to small quantities of chemicals, dust, steam, high‑pressure water, and high speed rotating equipment.
• Required to perform work in cramped spaces and/or high places.
