Job Summary

Holt CAT, the largest Caterpillar dealer of heavy construction equipment in the United States, is seeking an experienced Field Service Technician for the Dallas/Fort Worth Texas Region. The technician will conduct field service repairs on heavy construction equipment, addressing issues such as emissions, hydraulics, engines, transmissions, HVAC, and electrical systems on dozers, backhoes, front‑end loaders, and excavators. The position requires Monday through Friday, 7 am to 5 pm hours with overtime as needed. A valid driver’s license, good driving record, and ability to obtain a CDL Class B are required. The technician must maintain a DOT medical card and be able to work safely in a demanding field environment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Diagnose, troubleshoot, and repair construction equipment using electronic and manual diagnostics.
  • Document all work orders accurately and maintain clear customer records.
  • Troubleshoot and diagnose Tier 4 emission and EGR systems.
  • Perform intermediate repairs and troubleshooting offsite with minimal supervision.
  • Remove, install, disassemble, and assemble parts to Caterpillar specifications.
  • Test, adjust, and verify proper operation of all repairs.
  • Write service reports, order parts, and maintain data in required databases.
  • Act as a team leader and mentor/co‑coach junior technicians.
  • Participate in quotation of work orders and maintain equipment inventory.
  • Operate equipment and vehicles with all necessary licenses and certifications.
  • Maintain vehicle inspection records, daily inspections, and driver logs per DOT regulations.
  • Adhere to contamination control and HAZMAT rules.
  • Keep all company equipment, tools, and vehicles clean and in working order.
  • Communicate job progress to supervisors and customers.
  • Complete jobs to meet flat‑rate time and re‑work standards.
  • Work overtime as required by workload and customer needs.
  • Complete all assigned Technician Training Path courses and safety training promptly.
  • Project professionalism with internal and external customers, including personal appearance.
  • Maintain reliable attendance.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Skills, Knowledge and Expertise
  • Advanced diagnostic and troubleshooting skills for heavy construction equipment.
  • Proficient in troubleshooting Tier 4 emission, fuel, electrical, hydraulic, and EGR systems.
  • Knowledge of safe work procedures and equipment/tools.
  • Intermediate expertise in hydraulics, transmissions, engines, undercarriage, and electrical systems.
  • Proficiency with current computer software, hardware, and machine electronic systems.
  • Excellent customer service skills.
  • Planning and organizing skills to prioritize work activities.
  • Operational control skills for construction equipment or systems.
  • Tool selection and application skills for repair tasks.
  • Effective verbal and written communication.
  • Certification to operate crane and forklift.
  • Ability to meet deadlines in fast‑paced environments.
  • Proficiency with hand tools, power tools, pneumatic tools, and mechanical repair equipment.
  • Manual dexterity for assembling small components.
Education and Experience
  • More than four years of heavy equipment experience required; six or more years preferred.
  • Must be proficient with CAT ET and CAT SIS 2.0.
  • MSHA certification preferred.
  • Air conditioning certification preferred.
  • Must be able to troubleshoot and diagnose emission systems efficiently.

Travel

Travel required with a possibility of an overnight stay.

Additional Requirements
  • Valid driver’s license required.
  • Ability to obtain a valid Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) and maintain an acceptable driving record.
  • Must own required tools to perform repairs.
Physical Requirements
  • Move objects, using abdominal and lower back muscles to provide support over time without fatigue.
  • Frequently move materials or equipment weighing up to 80 lb.
  • Constant movement and use of limbs; requires good manual dexterity, coordination, and stamina.
  • Ascend/descend with gradual or continuous progress by oneself, using both hands and feet; climb ladders and equipment.
  • Maneuver safely and work underneath equipment.
  • React promptly to visual, auditory, and other signals, including alarms and instructions; visually inspect work.
Work Environment
  • Wearing common protective or safety equipment required.
  • Regularly works outdoors around moving mechanical parts; noise level may be loud at times.
  • May be exposed to weather extremes when working outside (inclement weather, heat, cold, humidity).
  • Exposure to small quantities of chemicals, dust, steam, high‑pressure water, and high‑speed rotating equipment.
  • Required to perform work in cramped spaces and/or high places.
