Job summary

NorcomCT is seeking a Service Technician/Field Engineer to join their technical services team. This role is essential to providing technology solutions for first responders. The position offers a pay rate between $29 to $43 per hour based on experience, alongside benefits such as medical, dental, and 401(k).

About the Role

As a member of NorcomCT’s technical services team, you will be an integral part of our core mission to provide technology solutions and services that help first responders, towns, and cities support and protect their communities. Our technical staff provides “best in class” support to keep client mission‑critical systems up and available every day.

We are currently seeking applicants for Service Technician/Field Engineer. Technicians provide repair and implementation service at the client’s location with company supplied vehicles.

Compensation and Benefits

Pay Rate: $29.00 to $43.00/hour ($60,320.00 - $89,440 annually). Pay rate is based on applicant’s skills, experience, training/education, certifications and licenses.

Location

US, Windsor, CT – Home‑based with travel to headquarters in Naugatuck and support for the Hartford County, CT and Western MA areas.

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Diagnose, repair and perform preventive maintenance of electronic equipment, including RF, control and IT equipment at customer sites.
  • Prepare, program, configure and stage equipment prior to installation.
  • Demonstrate operational aspects and features of equipment and systems and provide end‑user operational training.
  • Perform system audits and facilitate upgrades.
  • Deliver equipment and materials to off‑site locations.
  • Assist implementation crews with physical installation of equipment.
  • Complete field configuration, optimization of new systems and facilitate cutover.
  • Repair electronic equipment installed in vehicles, at service centers and at customer locations.
  • Assist with design of new systems.
  • Complete documentation of activities, systems and materials.
  • Assist support staff with processing and updating repair orders.
  • Keep vehicle and work area clean and maintained.
  • Perform other duties as required.

  • Troubleshoot and resolve problems or elevate them promptly while following consistent standards and approaches.
  • Document all work, including updating cases related to service requests and other tasks in a case‑management system.
  • Work effectively and independently with minimal supervision.
  • Collaborate with others as supporting, peer or mentoring roles when required.
  • Maintain reliable attendance and punctuality.
  • Possess a diverse skill set that allows rapid problem‑solving in varied situations.
  • Explain technical information in basic, understandable terms to customers and co‑workers.
  • Maintain a valid Connecticut driver’s license and acceptable driving record.
  • Pass company and customer background checks, physical, drug test and proficiency tests.
  • Be flexible in a dynamic and changing work day.
  • Travel out of state for training on occasion.
  • Maintain honesty, integrity and ethical behavior at all times.
  • Experience as a public‑safety end user or first responder is beneficial.
Technical Qualifications
  • Knowledge of basic electronics theory, including AC/DC voltage and current relationships, wire sizing, switches and relays, resistors with color codes, capacitance, inductance, RF modulation/demodulation, semiconductors, truth/logic tables, and formulas such as Ohm’s law, power law, capacitive and inductive reactance; use of oscilloscope and digital multimeter.
  • Windows PC/server and networking experience or training, including IP configuration, netmask, gateway, DHCP, Windows file structure, troubleshooting and replacement of major server/network/PC components, installation and configuration of Windows operating systems, domain and Active Directory. Network+ and/or A+ certifications are desired.
  • IT or electronics trade school diploma, AS degree, or equivalent experience.
  • Basic math skills for electronics equations.
  • Three years of field service or internal support experience preferred.
  • Strong problem‑solving ability and ability to read and interpret schematics.
  • Familiarity with electronic test equipment, soldering and connector assembly.
  • Proficiency with computers and standard office equipment.
  • Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel and web browser usage.
  • Ability to provide 24×7 on‑call support on a rotating basis and overtime support as needed.
  • Physical ability to lift and carry up to 75 pounds; assist with heavier loads in teams; work on uneven ground and at height; carry tools and equipment in varied weather.
  • Obtain CT DCP R2 license and Motorola/ETA technician certifications within 18 months of employment.
