Job description

Field Service Technician

Crown Technical Staffing is looking for an early‑career Field Service Technician for our client, an industrial parts manufacturer based in Missouri. This is not a degreed engineering role — it is a blue‑collar field position for a mechanically sharp technician who can weld stainless steel, read basic electrical schematics, and enjoy extensive travel while supporting the client’s installed base across the Midwest, NE, SW, and Southeast USA. The ideal candidate will drive service success that improves customer satisfaction, maximizes retention, and increases profitability by installing, repairing, and maintaining the client’s parts washers at customer sites throughout the U.S., with occasional travel to Mexico and Canada (travel up to ~70%, overwhelmingly domestic).

Responsibilities of the Field Service Technician
  • Performs on‑site installation, repair, and maintenance tasks: assembling stainless equipment, aligning and bolting structures, plumbing tanks and manifolds, and assisting with basic electrical connections according to company standards.
  • Diagnoses errors or technical problems on installed machines and determines proper solutions.
  • Reads and understands electrical schematics, pulls and connects wires to components to meet company and safety standards, and uses a multimeter safely to test circuits and components.
  • Troubleshoots and tests machines to ensure proper performance and wash quality, working with tight quality tolerances and meeting project deadlines.
  • Welds and inspects products safely and efficiently to meet customer requirements, including repairing leaks in stainless tanks, piping, and structural members; welding is non‑negotiable, and candidates must pass a weld test.
  • Performs fit‑up and layout, fits and welds assemblies per engineering drawings, and properly uses fabrication shop hand tools (grinders, drills, air tools) as well as vertical band saws, drill presses, and plasma cutters.
  • Adjusts welding equipment as needed to maintain part quality and sets up own machines for the materials being welded.
  • Troubleshoots, tests, repairs, and services the Client’s machines in the field, often acting as the “hands” for remote electrical engineers by connecting a laptop or interface for remote diagnostics.
  • Builds positive relationships with customers and acts as the Client’s on‑site face, combining solid technical work with professional, respectful communication.
  • Provides service and customer support during field visits, including installation, start‑up, troubleshooting, and operator/maintenance training on the client’s products
  • Completes and maintains detailed paperwork and service reports accurately and on time, following all company field procedures and protocols.
  • Cooperates with the technical team and shares information across the organization, including feedback from the field that can improve designs, processes, or training.
  • Operates vehicles safely while traveling to customer sites, adhering to company safety and driving expectations.
Qualifications of the Field Service Technician
  • Must be a U.S. citizen
  • High school diploma or GED preferred but not required
  • Minimum of 1 year of customer service and field service experience, ideally working on industrial machinery, equipment, or process systems.
  • Minimum of 1 year of electrical experience, including reading basic schematics and safely using a multimeter, with a willingness to learn more in coordination with in‑house electrical engineers.
  • Minimum of 1 year of welding/fabricating experience with various metals; stainless pipe welding experience is a plus.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and comfort using general shop hand tools and production equipment, including grinders, drills, air tools, band saws, drill presses, and plasma cutters.
  • Ability to work flexible shifts and adapt to changing work schedules; evening and weekend work may be required as job duties demand.
  • Willing and able to travel up to approximately 70% of the time, primarily across the Midwest, Northeast, Southeast, and some Southwest, with limited but occasional international travel (e.g., Canada, Mexico, India).
  • Customer service driven, with strong interpersonal skills and the ability to “fit in” on blue‑collar plant floors while representing the Client professionally.
  • Demonstrated initiative, organizational skills, and decision‑making ability, with a deadline‑driven mindset and comfort working both independently and as part of a team.
  • Physically able to perform the role, including frequently lifting/moving up to 25 pounds and occasionally up to 50 pounds, and working on concrete floors in noisy environments with temperature variations.
  • Must be able to pass required background and pre‑employment drug screening aligned with the Client’s and customer requirements.
